Ya I totally understand. Been down that road many times and it does add up very quickly.

Got the rear wheels off, breaking down the front end for a full rebuild and removed the exhaust. Thats about it for today. Might have parts in tomorrow and should have the carb rebuild kit as well.

Nice. I just replaced the fork seals and changed the fluid in mine. I found one was bent pretty good.

I hope to give mine a deep cleaning and rebuild worn parts as well.

Ya I'd say that's just a little bent. Forks are readily available. The upper tubes are the same for both sides.

    Dang that sucks!

Yeah doing these forks are going to be a breeze compared to the inverted Showas on my XR650L.

On the motor, remove the spark plug and shoot in a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. Let it soak.

Nertz I was going to toss deep creep in there before I took it to storage. I just got back. Its in a climate controlled room so its not going to get any worse at least.

Bringing the heat shield into the 21st Century! I used DEI Thermal tape I had laying around.

Cleaning up the exhaust system. I used a scotchbrite pad and some degreaser and scrubbed 30 years of gunk off. I have had great luck with VHT Flame header paint (1500*) for a base coat than the VHT gloss black engine enamel (500*) for a final coat on top.

The tires came dang near vacuum sealed compressed so I had to let them sit in the AZ sun for a bit for them to get back to their natural shape.

I got them mounted and I am starting to think I screwed up on the size. the wheels are 9" wide (stock 200x/350x wheels) and the tires are 22x10-9. The tire itself says for 8" wide wheel. I am worried if I may roll them off the bead. I dunno what do you guys think?

I hate it when they compress the tires like that. A bead blaster fixes that but I don't have a bead blaster so I have had to resort to more manual means. Don't worry about the wheels, they will be fine.
