Don't know anything about those in particular but it looks really clean for an 84, most of the old dualsports I see for sale around here are really beat. I am sure it would be a ton of fun for $1000, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if it checks out.

No model specific insight here either but I concure on most dual sports being beat till they bleed and then beat for bleeding! Looks to have a plastic tank, maybe not. I know that honda used a goofy valve cover design, some refer to it as a horse shoe, it's what's on my xl250 (82) and I played heck getting it to seal up. And now that I have talked about it it will most assuredly leak next time I attemp to impress my friends with my vintage dualsport skills!

I believe 1984 was the last year of the xr500. First and only year on RFVC. Parts are kind of hard to come by. Look for oil leaks around the head. Especially the 2 rocker shaft bolts that are on the left Side of the head and visible in the photo. Price seems decent. 1000 should take it. Good luck...

This XR500R looks to have been plated in Cali and your signature states Jersey, it's along way from home. They made these for 2 years '83-84, their dual carbs. My '83 3 wheeler hybrid started life as a 500 and still uses the original head and cases. Also have a '83 XL600R with 41,000 miles on it. Maintain proper oil level, don't overheat the engine and it'll live for many more miles. That's a fair price for the condition seen in pic's might be different during physical inspection.
