1986 125m spotted, now at new home

Spotted this 125 today driving around. Doing a quick post to find its value. As I haven't been watching these. It's missing pull start I see but looks good otherwise. Lady said it hasn't run in years. I see it's got a speedo on it and rear rack. Said her husband be back in an hour. What do you all think?

I'd say offer $200-250 for it and see what they say and work with them on it.

For actual value, in parts is probably highest value, but as it sits it might pull $400-500 tops? I don't see many of them listed. I suspect a complete machine in good shape would value around $1000 if you can find a buyer. My area can be different though, some areas prices are more or less doubled.

Just keep in mind, orig price + seat cover + recoil starter + possible tires needed before even knowing if it runs and what other work it needs. It does look nice, so I'd think the engine will be fine, but you just never know. Try to spin the engine over by hand and see if the compression feels ok.

I wouldn't bother adding value for the rack/speedo for buying it in that shape, but I suspect each is worth $100-200 in good working order not bent etc.

Good luck, maybe he will just say take it off my hands free =)

Tell me where,I'll be right up ..lol,, It looks to me like it has a value to the current owner a little north of nothing.. I would start at $100 and feel him out. I would give you $400 worst case scenario. Good luck!

I always check a bike for spark before buying, like stated above your going to have to put $ into it just to get it going. see how compression feels w a rope. id offer 200$ if it had spark. rare or not its kinda up to you if your willing to put money you probably will not get back into it...

I am going back tonight and talk to her husband. I am not sure it hasn't run in years because it broke in some way, but am leaning to its because she said her husband had a stroke years ago and haven't used it since. May be nothing wrong at all really. Will find it it tonight. Thanks for your input guys.

Just checked it out. He said it did loose spark, says he has new electrical parts. Tires on back are soft, likely shot, front tire is shot. Fenders are solid and crack free. Hondaline ATC Speedometer. Seat needs new cover, and pull start missing. Other then that it seems in great condition. He didn't have a price. I said take some time, think it over and give me a number he is comfortable with, and we can go from there. Nice older guy though, I feel good about it.

That's nice of you, a lot of people around here seem to want it now and buy on the spot before the owner can really think things threw, had similar experience on Craigslist when people list things on a whim, then when you get there they are half shocked that someone actually showed up and you can see it on their face that the price was too low.

Whatever he comes back with, you should try to get it. The rear fender is a key element as they are "unobtainium". If it is not cracked, it can be sanded out to be nice and red again. Good luck.

Agreed the 86 125m is one of my very favorite trikes. But finding parts for one is like finding a needle in a hey stack. Take my muffler for example it took 6 months to find and then it cost me an arm and a leg to buy and this was used. When done and done right however these little trikes can be worth some serious cash.

while were on the 125 subject,

anyone got the issue where the Kawasaki klt 110 kicked the 86 125m's arse?? been looking for that issue... it was on 3wheeler.org but is now gone...
klt 110, king of small bores, 86 Honda 125 king of high price and for what? the klt 160/185 is more rare then the Honda yet is worth far less...
the Suzuki alt 125 is rare and very similar but also isn't high priced, kind of stumped on this...

I was thinking that the small bore KLTs were plagued with electrical issues. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I know I have heard this somewhere. And the Suzuki 125s (and their 185s) are the worst handling trikes of all time. Hondas are known for their reliability and they all handle pretty well all things considered. Just my opinions.

That 86 is still in very nice shape for how long its been sitting. Hopefully that piece of wood on the right rear fender did not cause any damage.

And on Hawaiiriders subject, If I was in a showroom full of brand new KLT 110's, 160/185's and Honda 125m I would buy the Honda even if it was twice the cost. Every KLT I have owned has been extrememly unreliable, I could just be unlucky but that is my opinion. And hey, my name is Jason125m... lol
