Ignition timing is basically non-adjustable. But widening the point gap does advanced it, and narrowing it does retard it. Personally when I set the point gap on them I set the gap as wide as possible while still allowing it to have spark. Which is the most advance you can get out of it.

Spent a little time in the garage tonight, point gap is around .016 at its widest point. Kind of a finicky beast to check. Spark is not as bright as I thought, more of a white arc. My ignition timing is spot on, I have 170~lbs compression. Still does not appear to be getting gas when I pull it over. And it won't pop if I spray gas straight into cylinder. Is my spark to weak with this new high compression engine? Is it worth putting in New points or should I just convert it to electronic ignition?

    Hobbies are fun....

It sounds like you have all the bases covered. I'm sure it's something simple. Have you tried using a new spark plug? I have had terrible luck with the NGK resistor plugs. I've had them where they have spark when not in an engine but lose spark when exposed to compression. I only buy the NGK non resistor plugs now. They seem much more durable and longer-lasting.

Give it a few drops of gas right in the spark plug hole and pull it over. Spraying in the back of carb is pretty much same thing. I suspect an issue with timing....I know you checked it twice but if it's sparking and your spraying gas it should at least pop. Is it backfiring or popping off at all?

If timing is off it will cough and sputter and backfire but won't run.

Very cool bike!! I'm also saying try a new plug. I have had the same problem as metioned by Blown331 about not firing under compression. Good luck!

It's alive! Told it I was going to trade it off for a Yamaha and she fired right up.

On a serious note, after I quadruple checked everything, I threw a new plug in it and it fired right off. Second time a spark plug got the best of me. Time to do some heat cycles and check the plug out for jetting purposes. Oh, now I have to fix pull start, one of the pawls is stuck out. Started it with a CORDED drill! Thanks for the input guys. Would see some of you at TF but my grannies 90th birthday party is Saturday. Can't miss it.

Nice! NGK resistor plug strikes again! I'll never buy another one. I only by the NGK non resistors.

It's got one in it still, but that will change as soon as I make to parts store. Pull start fixed, test ride in the books. Fine tune her when the rain stops
