This bike was originally from California. I bought it from the second owner who lived in Colorado (his buddy moved to CO from CA)

As for my 85, I drove to Michigan to pick it up. Most of the time your pretty lucky if you find a decent machine around the central states.
Just last week I missed out on an almost mint 87 200x for $900. I wish I woulda jumped on it a little sooner, but missed out.

Hey chainsaw, you keep all your new parts indoors too eh? My room is full of new parts, no reason for them to get torn up and nasty in the garage .

I wish I had a garage, I have a small shed, and it's too cold, and too clustered to do any tear downs right now. Hey chainsaw, you have an 85 5 speed model too right? How different is the 6 speed model than the 5 speed, is the 6 any quicker or faster than the 5? I was just wondering, because I want to get a 6 speeder, but wonderd if it will really make that much of a difference.

Cant help ya there man.. lol I have both, but my 85 has a YZ motor in it. But as for faster... your damn right it is.. lol

Here is my opinion on the 5/6 speed tranny thing.. Every 5 speed I have ever rode, feels like it needs one more.. But yet every 6 speed I have rode doesnt really need a 6th gear. With some sprocket changes, both will be able to do just about anything you want.
Id just keep the 5 speed man.. take a look at all the options of rear sprockets some time for the Tri-Zs... they are endless. A hell of a lot better selection then 85 250Rs, and still a better selection then 86-89 R's.

yup,.. and you might recognize my 85 if you ride at Silver Lake. This machine is from your neck of the woods.

I was told it was a direct bolt it.. from the looks of it, yes it was. I didnt do any of the fab work on it, although Id love to lie and say I did.. someone spent a hell of a lot of time on this machine.

Yes, I've noticed this lately shopping to change the gearing on my 85. I'm getting a new chain and need new sprockets so I'm going to change. From what I can tell, thats the benefit of sharing a rear sprocket with 89-03 Banshee. : Of course, the front it shares with many Yamaha models.

its done.. pretty much. Just gotta find another hose, and get the pipe hung good, and get her fired up.
It only took 2 1/2 hours to tear down... a whole 8 1/2 to put it back together... This will probably be the last Tri Z I do.. lol 250Rs are so much simpler, and easier.
Anyhow,... here were pics 1:20 this morning. Ill get some neat shots in the next couple of weeks.
