    1985 brakes to 1986 250r rear brakes

Question, i know the rear brakes on the 85-86 are mounted differently, can an 85 caliper bolt onto an 86 brake stay or is it a different caliper completely? My new swinger needs 86 rear brakes and I currently have 85 brakes.

Also does anyone have a working rear 86 caliper and necessary hardware to mount it? Brake stay/caliper if my 85 caliper won't bolt to an 86 stay?

    Thanks Sam

Same caliper. All the calipers on the trx250r are the same.

Calipers are the same for the ATC and TRX. The mounting bracket for 85 is one year only.

If you swap you need the correct stay on the swingarm.

As already stated above, the calipers are the same. I'm pretty sure that the only reason that the only reason Honda used different part numbers between the two was because the 85 was black and the 86 was gray.

    Edit...

I think I may have an 86 stay for you, but it is at the powder coater with a bunch of other brake parts. Can you hold out a few more days? It's going to be satin black, BTW.

Here's a thought? Does a 400ex brake stay work? Look quite similar Click image for larger version.

    Oh...shoot! I misspoke when I said stay...I meant the support bracket. I don't have the 86 stay, just the 86 bracket...sorry.

On the 86 rear caliper parts diagram, it is #5. It the bracket that holds the caliper to to the swinger.

I don't know about the 400EX fitment, but the 86-89 TRX250R should work (they share the same part # as the 86 ATC). Here is a used one on feeBay:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-TRX250...BW4ye2&vxp=mtr

Or BDT makes new ones for $39 in different colors:

    Hope that helps.
