    200s axles assembly removal?

Im swapping out the crushed frame on my 200s. The replacement frame doesnt have the rear axle assembly so its gotta come from the wreck. I see what looks like four 17mm bolts two on each side. Is there a nut holding the rear backing plate to the axle assy or is it threaded and can I just remove the bolts and slide the whole assy out after I remove the chain and cables? Thanks. Jim

Just ran out and looked at mine, sounds like you are correct. Been awhile since I've had mine out. I'm guessing you've already figured out that the chaincase covers need to come off before you remove the axle/carrier assembly.

I would disassemble everything, clean and inspect it all and replace any and all seals. Make sure your bearings roll smoothly and quietly. When you have it out is the time to make sure it's reliable for another 30 years.

ETA: Here's a link to a copy of the manual. Download it and you'll have a factory manual for free.

I spent some time getting the motor ready to pull. With the frame bent I had a heck of a time getting the head pipe off but the motor is ready to come out. I know ill regret it later but right now im just swapping everything over without doing any detailing or parts replacement. I dont kn o the condition of the motor so I dont want to waste time or money on unneeded things. I do have two other mystery 185 engines that ive picked up over the years in case this motor is hurt. Well...found out the nuts are loose on the inside of the brake drum. Got the rear axle off, got the motor set in the second frame. Went to install the rear axle assembly and for out some bozo cut the axle mounts off the frame!.
So plan two. Grab the old frame I had in the yard. The one I just pulled the front forks off of. I loosened the brakes and the rear axle spins so now to swap the motor over again. And keep on with this project. Jim

A little progress. Had to swap the sprockets and chain. Motor is bolted in. Exhaust is in, front forks are on. Just Jed to hook up the harness, cables buy a petcock and recover the seat and its done. Trike came with a aftermarket fiberglass fender so it actually looks like a complete trike. After this one gets running hopefully this weekend. Im going to find someplace to store the 250sx and work on the car project and come back to the sx later. Jim
