    93 yamaha virago

Got this for free today. Doesn't run but most of it is there. It's a 535 twin anyone know much about them?

Yep I know quite a bit about them. How many miles does it have? What's it missing? Get a title before you spend ANY other time or money on it. Good bike to learn on.

I got it from a guy that it moving out of his house. He lives an hour away from me and the guy he got it from lives in my town. I git bill of sale but I don't think it'll work because after I left he wrote yamaha "yamiha" lol. If I remember the miles were like 25xxx. Its missing the left side operator foot peg, shifter, a few case bolts, the keys were lost both ignition and gas cap. The clutch is either stuck or the cable is just really stretched. I'm betting there is more but it should be all that I can do.

I am pretty sure that is not a 1993 535 Virago, but rather an '82 or '83 XV 920 Virago. There may be a key number code on the back of the ignition switch to have a key made (around here, you need to show proof of ownership to have this done), or remove the switch entirely and bring it to a competent lock smith. I have used both methods successfully. Beware that the seat lock and gas cap lock may not still be keyed alike, but the ignition key is the most important key at this point. I would suggest trying to get the bike running while spending as little as possible. If the bike runs well and you like it, follow this link to talk you through the steps to legally obtain a title. http://benboyle.com/blog/?p=16
Run the vin # by the local police prior to trying obtain a title to make sure the bike is not stolen, because if it is, after the titling process begins the blame will be on you.
BTW, shouldn't this be posted in Bikersville? Not trying to bust your stones, but you may get more (or better) advice there than I have been able to offer you.
    Great score, and good luck!

Wow, just saw the pic of the ignition switch, and it is gorked. Skip my first suggestion, and see if you can source a switch somewhere.

Yep. The CC should be cast on a cylinder as well. This is what I'd want to do to it.

How long ago was that? As of late International Title Service, Broadway Titles, and Get A Title.com have been less than reputable, and the Vermont title method is hundreds of dollars cheaper.

Sorry El. There is a limit of one exotic bike per customer, and you already have SEVERAL.

It was a couple years ago, it was really easy and it cost me ~$100. Good to know and thanks for the knowledge sharing.

You did well! My friend used ITS and it cost him almost $500, and took about 6 months. I guess every situation is different.

Definitely an '82 or '83 and a 920, had one myself a few years back. Square headlight and dorky (no offense, like I said I had one) square "computer" gauge setup is a dead giveaway that it's much earlier than '93. They got rid of the computer gauge cluster and went back to conventional chrome round body speedo and tach and round headlight just a year or two later... good move too IMHO.

It's funny, if you weren't clear on the other side of the continent, I would swear that's my old bike... right down to the color, aftermarket pipes, and aftermarket seat cover. Mine was in much better shape when I sold it about 8-10 years ago.
    Trikes:
    '85 ATC 350R
    '85 ATC 250R
    '86 ATC 350X
    '85 ATC 350X
    '84 ATC 200ES Big Red
    '84 ATC 125M
    '85 ATC 110
    '85 ATC 70/110

If you have bought from me or sold to me, please leave me feedback here>>> http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthr...+RIDE-RED+250r

Ride Red, do you still have a registration, insurance card or anything with the VIN number on it from your 920? If so, you could check to see if, by some freak chance, this IS your old bike. Stranger things have happened. BTW, I was in a lot better shape 8-10 years ago, too.
