Question on 250SX Vintage Clarke Tank vs New

I am going to get a plastic tank and use for a while, while my OEM is getting some tlc. I saw this older Clarke tank on ebay but am up in the air on it. It doesn't match the design of the original tank however I kinda dig this one and I was also wondering if anyone knew quality wise if the older Clarke tanks were better than the new ones? I do not have any experience with Clarke tanks but I have done some research and I get mixed reviews. Thanks guys.

Clarke is fine as long as it's not white.

My SX tank does not look like that; And isn't the petcock on the wrong side??

Yeah, I would double check the application on the tank in the picture, before you pull the trigger on it.
It looks nothing like the Clarke tank I have on my Sx either.

Yeah I knew it didn't look like the others. I thought maybe it was older and just different, and your right dirtcrasher on the petcock I over looked that. Thanks guys for the help. I'll probably pull the trigger on the new Clarke tank in red!

Thanks oldschool83 for that information. I was mislead by the inaccurate description. However that is why I brought my question here for clarity.

Quality wise, I have a Clarke tank on my old XL250R and am pleased with it. Clarke did not make a plastic tank specifically for my bike so I had to retrofit a their 90's oversized XR tank to fit but it has worked great and is still working great after nearly 20 years. I would assume their ATC tanks are of the same quality.

I have a 3 gallon tank on my yz250 made by clarke and a IMS on my 200x. Both are fine. I hate metal tanks on trikes....nothing but dents and banged up knees.

I checked into the IMS tanks but they don't seem to have anything available for the 250SX. I heard good things about those tanks.

Thanks Chris for that info. I did see some of the aluminum caps and I will probably go that route. I ended up going with the Clarke tank. I saw they have cap gaskets on the Clarke site, are those something that should be used?

Digging up an old thread but does anyone in this conversation have a plastic tank that is the right shape but doesn’t have the little c shaped cups that engage on the little rubber mounts on the neck of the frame? My new tank is all proper but is smooth there and has a metal wire running across from oneside to the other with two molded in screw mounts on the bottom of each side of the tank. I’m thinking I’m going to have to fabricate some sort of a mount that engages in both sides where those screws are
