    350x cases

So I just purchased a set of cases off of ebay for the 350x to build it back up after the chain incident. In the description online they said minor scratches and you couldn't see in the pics but has a small hole in the upper part of the case in the chain area, I think it will be ok just want to see what everyone thinks.

I'd add some JB weld to the outside of it, but first mix the JB with some aluminum shavings or even powder.

maybe it is just me but I would return it, I guess if you had seen the hole before would you still have gotten it?

I'm fairly certain that just seals an empty orifice, correct? If so JB Weld as was stated. JB Weld is more than strong and durable enough to seal that indefinitely. You could even fill the entire orifice.

Don't even bother with the welding. You're at more of a risk (which is low) of destroying the case welding it. That's a JB Weld job all day long, exactly what it was made for.

Tough to say not being there in person. Just get in there as best you can and clean it out good with brake cleaner, you should be fine.

    As previously mentioned:

    1. That area is double-walled area. The hole leads to a separate sealed cavity. The crankcase is still sealed, so really you don't need to do anything.

    2. Straight-up JB weld is the way to go. I've fixed a few cases this way. I don't like to fill the cavity all the way up, because if a chain jump ever happens again (and you don't have a case saver installed, see #3 below) being solid will result in breaking through both walls. Use a piece of cardboard or plastic to back up the outer wall and apply JB weld on the outside. Once cured, you can use a dremel sanding drum to smooth it out all even and then paint it and it will look like new.

    3. Make sure to install a case save when you put it back together, it is mandatory. Check the 3WW parts store. Tapper has reproduction case savers there for sale.

I agree with everything wonderboy says and he makes a point about why it may be better off not to fill it completely. I also agree, case saver is mandatory.

Don't even ride it around the yard until you get a case saver. It's hard to resist not riding it but you have to-that case isn't too bad; don't make it worse.
