    185s build (full suspension) - 2021 Update

*Picked back up working on this thing for 2021 on post 34
*For the rear suspension details go to page two. Ill be creating a new thread with the details of the swingarm swap later after I finish. This thread is a complete build thread of the whole bike.

In the process of rebuilding my 83' 185s. Wouldn't call it a restoration because I'm deleting some stuff and modifying some stuff. As for the motor its pretty much already built but i don't have any pictures of it at the moment. It got upgraded to a 200s cylinder, shindy 10.25:1 piston, xr 200 cam, and new barrett clutches. Thanks to Ol Deuce for the adapter its got a 83 250r front end on it. I'm currently in school for civil engineering so I make progress on it when I can. There is a lot left to do on it but I'm just gonna take my time and build it how I want it so I thought I'd share my progress so far with yall.
(picture with the white plastics is the day i bought it about 6 years ago)

Thanks. Tell me about it haha. The one I have now is actually in great shape. Just a little surface rust on it. I got it from a guy on here for a good deal. The old one was in several pieces held together with duck tape.

Coat it with POR15 or something to preserve it. Metal seat pans tend to disappear as you know!

Little more progress, finally sourced all the 250r front end parts. Put new steering stem bearings in. Used a heat gun to get rid of the oxidation on the plastics. Usually comes out better but these are really sun dried. Gotta get 250r handlebars, didnt realize they were wider than the 185s bars. Keeping these big rear tires until I can decide what setup I want to run for a rear swing arm. Will use 20"s for the back then. Still gotta pop a dent out of the gas tank and paint it.

Looking to buy an exhaust for the 185s but i plan on doing a rear suspension setup and need to know if there are any exhuast that i can slightly modify to use outside the frame instead of inside the frame. A couple I have found are the 200m, 200e, and 200es exhaust but i dont know if the frames are significantly different or if I can simply just weld on a tab to bolt the exhaust on. Also would there be a possibility of a 200x exhaust fitting up? I know the cobra exhaust will do what I need but there a bit pricey for what I'm wanting to do, mainly looking at the DG exhaust. Anybody done this or know about it?

On my suspended 185s build I used a DG exhaust for a 200x. I had to drill into a prm grab bar for a mount point but it fits and holds good. There is a bottom mount I'm not currently using. I have posted a picture below. There is a little more about it in my build thread. There is also a video of it running so you can hear the exhaust. If your interested the link is in my signature. And below is a link to the exhaust I bought

That's not my bike plevib. Hopper055 thank you, I actually found your thread after I posted the question, that thread helps a lot thanks. I'm actually looking to adapt a warrior 350 swingarm for my rear suspension I just need to know the carrier mount width at the end of the swingarm and the pivot tube diameter.

Little more progress. Spent $30 on bolts... I hate hardware is so expensive. Got the motor all torqued and pressure washed just needs primer and paint. Gotta order some more parts but I can begin making a new wiring harness now.
