    '85 Honda 250SX VS. '85 Honda 250ES OEM Mufflers... Interchangable ??

Does anyone know if the OEM muffler from a '85 Honda 250SX is the same or interchanges with the OEM muffler from the '85 Honda 250ES ?? I know they look awfully close to one another. Part numbers are off by 1 letter and 1 single digit.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I put an '85 SX head pipe on an 85 ES and it fit perfectly. I would bet the muffler would fit as well.

I'm thinking the same thing. If the exit angle of the headpipes match...I'd be willing to bet the mufflers will swap too. The reason for this question is that my OEM SX muffler has been repaired in the past from previous owners and needs repairing again. There's a few aftermarket silencers out there but they only list them for the ES.

Very good question. I don't have an answer either but I can speak on the aftermarket mufflers. I installed on on my big red right before trikefest and it fits great. Decibels are near stock.

more of an I don't know than an answer, but i think the lower mount is in a different place. The reason i think this is that i changed out a big red to a chimp aftermarket exhaust and it only used the upper and rear mount. It was so nice that i did the same for a friends sx. same exact kimpex muffler. same top mount and rear mount. bottom mount did not exist. 2 outta 3 aint bad.

A mod to the inlet pipe is probably in order. That...I can handle. I'll pick one up and see how it goes.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Post back what you find. My old brain can't remember the exact differences,or which one I was swapping. SX to ES or vice versa. Just know they didn't work without work.

My old brain does!! Hey Bill, it's been a while!!

Yes it will interchange..However the one machine has a flange on the frame to connect and support the pipe, the other doesn't. That bit my old brain doesn't remember..Same condition as Bill.

Anyway you install the muffler and if needed cut the flange using a grinder to make sure it clear and doesn't contact the frame. The back securing bolt and front pipe geometry are the same on both models and it'll directly fit once this small modification is done!
