Weak spark on my 1985 ATC250ES

Hi guys, after cleaning up my non-running 250ES (original owner said it had a bad coil) I replaced the coil and CDI with chinese ones, gave it a proper service, rebuild the carb (after 2 months of waiting for the carb kits from USA). Started first time every time. Drove it a few times over the next few weeks and then all of a sudden it didn't wanto start. I checked the spark and there was nothing, the plug itself was quite black so I cleaned it up nicely and then there was a light spark.

Now I am wondering, am I maybe running too rich, or is there something else that is either burning my coil or the cdi, if this was the problem on this trike before then there must be a cause for it, I don't see myself replacing the coil and/or cdi every few weeks.

    Any ideas / advice?

I stray away from any Chinese electronics...I haven't had much luck with them in the past. I would find a good used OEM CDI and coil from a member or Ebay. After that, check all your connections and make sure the stator tests w/in spec. Never hurts to replace w/ a fresh plug as well.

On my other trikes I only used the chinese parts as shipping to South Africa is just un-affordable and these parts are easily available here, I always had good results. When I "refreshed" the big red I cleaned and checked every inch of the trike. Checked all the connections (although my neutral light still stays on no matter which gear it is in) Changed the filters, plugs, oil etc. I didn't run checks on the stator though.

I'd say to check the resistance on all of your electronic parts to see if any are bad. Then go from there. Replacing parts to see if that makes your trike run is a waste of money.
