    250sx axle bearings and seals

How difficult is changing the axle bearings and seals in a 1985 250sx? I bought my bike about a week or two ago and changed the rear end fluid to find it full of milky water and metal shavings. It's not making any weird noises and seems to ride fine. But for For my peace of mind I'd like to change the bearings and seals. I looked on you tube and could only find half @$$ "how to" videos.

I bought Kendra bear claws and plan on playing in some mud so While I am at it is there a way to seal the rear end like the 86 and 87 sx's? If not I guess I'll be changing my fluid more often than I'd like.

    Thanks in advance.

Send Flyingw a pm. He's really good at rebuilding these rear ends.

I recently rebuilt my rear because the pinion needle bearing exploded
the only hard parts are removing the blind needle bearing for the pinion gear as I don't have a blind puller but you can push it out from the back
and the retainer nut (not sure what its called but its an inside out nut threads on the outside) that you need a special tool (they are available on ebay $$)to remove I took it to my local Honda powersports dealer and they had the took and did it immediately

other then that its a straight forward bearing job just make sure you freeze the inner and heat(half hr at 200 in the oven for good expansion ) the outer
doing this I didn't need force to seat any bearings Click image for larger version.

You need a special spanner socket from Yamaha, to get the pinion gear loose. Want the socket number?
