Regarding your question about Tecate production numbers, here is a thread that discusses it. There should have been a lot more--damn lawyers.

The cockpit seems so much slimmer and less bulky. When hanging off in a turn it has a more narrow between-the-knees feel (insert "that's what she said" joke here), and the rear fender isn't up your tookus quite as much. It really seems to have a simplistic/bare-bones feel with a more raw power curve.
I still think the second gen T3 is the best looking bike ever made, but compared to the first gen, it feels kinda high and bulky.

I agree. Comparing the 1st and 2nd generation Tecates I would say the following. The 1st generation has a larger, more open rider compartment, whereas the 2nd generation feels cramped. The foot peg to seat distance is too short, but I'm 6'1" so that may explain it. The engine on the 1st generation has a more raw, light-switch type power band, whereas the 2nd generation has a more even spread of power, thanks to the power valve. The suspension on the 1st generation is not near as good as the 2nd, especially the front. The 2nd generation has more precise steering, probably due to the more narrow tire. Finally, the 2nd generation is definitely the looker of the two, although a 1st generation MX'er can look sweet.
So tore down. The tecate again this year, this time I didn't skip out on anything. New Lonestar axle, hoosier tried tracs, powder coated frame and swing arm, all hardware zinc plated, Fully rebuilt /new brakes front and rear every bearing on the machine and full top and bottom end complete overhaul. so far just have the motor left to do

I wouldn't mind at all to have a 2nd Gen I'm my stable!
