    350X GOKI Starter Replacement Found

The starter on my Goki broke the armature shaft at the base of the gear, Obviously Goki is out of business, but with a little research online I found a replacement from DB electrical for 60$ shipped. Not sure if it would in fact work, I went ahead and ordered one, and how about that? It works! The only difference I can see is there are 2 studs on the back of the motor, the Goki had the provision for the studs, but it was not threaded. After I verified it worked, I tried to remove the studs, they both snappped off flush with the case of the starter, no harm, no foul. The other modification needed is removing the plastic dust cover over the return spring of the bendix, if you leave it on it hits the case and will not let the bendix to engage the ring gear. The original application for the starter is a Polaris snowmobile. Even better, is it turns over my 500 much better than the original Goki did, I still need to use the compression release to get it spinning, but it seems to spin the motor faster, and start better than it ever did, I am attaching a link to the interchange page for the starter. I have no ties with DB, although I have used them many times in the past for Starters and Alternators for ATVs, Boats, and Cars.

Great info and thanks for posting up. I haven't mounted my Goki yet but my online research led to Artic cat 440 cheetah starter. Again there are studs to remove but I was told it bolts up. I have not confirmed and your application at $60 shipped is hard to beat.

I believe the Arctic car 440 starter is the same, but comes with studs in the main mounting holes that need to be removed.

It does not have the studs on the back side of the motor, however. Looks like either one is a viable option, I'm just happy I dont have to kick it over anymore, I'm getting lazy...

There are a few that fit. There is one for an Polaris snow mobile that bolts right on- no studs. The problem I've been having with them is they are not intended to be run upright like they are on a 350x. The return spring isn't strong enough to keep the pinion gear out of harms way for very long. A few good bumps and it drops down and hits the ring gear on the fly wheel and BAD things happen. If one of us could come up with a replacement spring that's a bit stronger it would sure make it more reliable.

If you brake the shaft on the old starter the spring falls into the flywheel and gets chewed up. So you can't use it again.
