We have some nasty ones up by my dad' cabin. I remember him showing me one that was basking in the mud pretending to be a rock when I was a kid and it took the end off of his rubber boot. If the boots had not been borrowed and two sizes too large he would've lost a few toes. We have one that hangs around the shore for fish guts, but it gives me the creeps to know that thing is lurking out there whenever I go in for a dip. His shell is at least 18" long and we've seen them much bigger in other areas of the lake. They remind me of living dinosaurs.

Tonight I am having fun. In fact, I am having so much fun that I'm thinking about getting my biggest out and commemorating the moment in a permenant way. Not shown in the photo is the overpriced gasket that does not fit the intended application. Click image for larger version.

I've seen them crossing the road with a shell about two feet in diameter. I felt no need to help that ancient critter cross the pavement. This one was about 12 inches in diameter and wasn't very happy that I picked him up.

I feel that way sometimes, but I'm only in my mid fifties. The bike is a 2000 Sportster 1200 Custom.
