Yea, usually laying down in my line of work is a bad idea. Usually water/mud, #2 flowing past your toes, or it's at least an osha violation.

And the pictures are sideways, if I dont think about posting them to here, I dont take them in landscape mode or whatever. And I'm to tired to modify them!
The real reason to hydro-vac or hand dig.....eeek!

I use an iPhone to take my pics and they are always sideways too. I convert them to "Paint" rotate them and resave them and all is good from there.

Yea, hydro excavator is a back saver, and bank account saver for that part. We pot hole for utilities before any excavation, no matter how big or small the project. In all the years I've done this, I've hit a coaxial tv line, with a shovel, and got into a 6" gas main with a trencher, luckily the gas was a mess up on others, and I always take pictures before I put the bucket into the ground. Utilities can seriously injure you, or worse.

Trying to get the Trans Am started. Few months ago it was running and now it won't. I thought I had some issues with the park/neutral safety switch because these cars have a convoluted setup. Linkage running from the floor shifter to the column to mimic the previous years with column shift. But, I'm reading the 79-81 don't have that anymore.
Laying on my back under the dash and I notice some "not original" wiring which may be part of the issue. A previous owner had removed the Pontiac 301 turbo and replaced with a Chevy 350 so there is no telling what has been modded on it. Not even sure what transmission it has.

Oh well, get a wiring diagram, voltmeter, and start tracing.

That's too bad. The old GM small blocks aren't worth squat anymore with all the new engines available. It would've been more valuable with the original turbo engine. 350s are a dime a dozen.

I just watched one of those turbo 301s roll across the floor of a televised auction. Mecum or Barret Jackson. If it would've had a 350 in it, the bidding wouldn't have been nearly as high.

Three family/friend deaths this year for me.

Thankfully, some people put together a LMAO commercial.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTn8g406kvc

If you don't get the 1980's devil origin, you're forgiven. If you do, it makes the commercial all that much better.

I'd like to think Tim Curry would be happy.

Yep, those 350s were everywhere. Every kid had one or a 383 stroker in their ride.

I know where a complete 301T and trans are if I ever wanted to go back original. Wouldn't be numbers matching but would get it back to "original." It would be a decision of whether I wanted to spend the time to go back with that or go LS. A 301T ain't gonna come close to LS power but fix a few of the known issues with them and they run decent. Most people didn't want to mess with the turbo so they replaced them.
Getting G-Pop Shop in Springdale to rebuild the turbo was one of the first suggestions I heard. From the factory, the things were so inconsistent where most pushed 3-4lbs max.
One other tip I heard is to run straight pipes (?2" or 3"). The turbo is supposed to quieten it enough where you don't need mufflers. Like to hear that.

Right now, just want to be able to back it out of the garage.

You could run a wire straight from the battery to the distributor and remote engage the starter. That'd at least get it started so you can move it.

If you have a line on a 301T, it'd be nice to at least have one if you decided to use it later.

Yeah, they weren't any kind of powerhouse, but they were a unique setup. You could throw some modern wizardry at it, like fuel injection and a more tunable CDI ignition, maybe even crank triggered. I think they had, or people installed, methanol injection on those, because of the lack of a intercooler. I don't think an intercooler is even an option with a draw-through system, then again, it's a short path for the turbo anyway and maybe that isn't so much of an issue.

Any of the other Pontiac engines would be cool in there. A 455, 400, or even getting more rare, the OHC I-6. Just staying away from the Olds 403 that a lot of them came with, not that it's a bad engine, but it's certainly no Pontiac 400, power wise.

Been replacing water line main valves at the power company, first ones were easy, other than they were 10" valves and are heavy. Next 2 are a different story. I've spent 2 days running the breaker on the mini to get enough concrete out of the way to replace the valves. 1 more to finish digging out tomorrow. Good thing these are t&m jobs.

Victory! All I have to do now is patch back the concrete, auger in a handful of bollards, then it's off to build an indoor dog park!

The odd deal is, I'm the foreman, normally the operator but I've got a crippled up 62 year old guy and a green horn as a crew currently. I'm good with showing the kid how to make stuff work and all the parts and gizmos a guy needs to learn to make chicken salad out of chicken sheet. I'm just very impatient and am not a "watcher." Stay safe out there boys.

That can't be stressed enough. Too many people don't make it home because they believed the job was more important than their lives. A good many people actually die because a hole fell in, even being shallow, they should all be shored up to regulation. It doesn't take long to suffocate in a collapsed construction hole.

Pete and Repeat were in a boat, Pete fell out; and it repeats. Just like car drivers killed in train crossings every year. Physics doesn't have sympathy for idiots.
