I'm just not a fan of tire plugs. I've never really seen the sense in pulling something out of a hole just to stick something back in, unless I'm in bed with a female of the opposite sex.....
I do carry a plug kit and a can of "Fix A Flat" when we're on all day trail rides just in case of an emergency, but I swap the plug out for a patch when I get home. Part of my anal retentive side I guess My local home based tire guy refuses to use plugs and patches all tire repairs.
The antler puncture happened about 1 1/2 miles from the house, the neighbor and I went out for a little spin, only took a couple beverages each. No phones, no cameras, electronic gadgets, etc. Just out in the woods tooling about on trails that have been made on the properties around my neighborhood, as well as going "off trail" and just puttering thru the woods. Patched the tire up after I got home.
I do a small amount of atv tire repair/tire swapping for friends and family. They get charged extra if they've put Slime or "fix a flat" in their tire(s). "Fix a Flat" isn't too bad, but Slime sux equestrian rooster
