    That's a good try Shep!.......

Are the splines cast at the factory or were they like forged or something? Either way your attempts always turn out winners down the road.

The splines are machined in afterwards, with a costly machine tool I’m guessing.
Aluminum won’t work as a kicker if it could I’d just use the kickshaft in the sand then remove the knuckle while pouring and molten alum would form perfectly around it.(then remove) Sadly the alum would just strip out on kicking over I’d amagine.
Tried looking on that utube, there’s not many vids on inner spline machining.

Ok got the charging circuit up and running on my Wisconsin thd project. Dunno what i am gonna do with the darn thing! Today, a flywheel change and putting in the stator and various rectifiers, etc.
I am getting 34v AC off one wire and 22vDC off another, by the time it filters down it is 7-8vDC to the ammeter (2000 rpm.) Maybe this is a 6v system? Or bad rectifiers etc. this is the 3 unit system and it is hard to find anything about what I should see/read/test.

I didn’t think I’d get sick of looking at Honda red but I’m getting pretty close to it. Been molding since noonish, 4- done one in the mold in background and still 3 more tonight to finish/pour. I’m using the beer case as a weight the problem is it’s getting lighter as the night goes on

Today I got the 39mm PWK on the TRI-Z. With no real tuning it's already pretty happy and that makes me happy!!

I’m stuck on the word for the process used to make inner splines, but it’s not terribly complicated. It’s the same process that’s used to size box end wrenches after forging. It’s just a tapered tool with the shape of the splines on it that’s punched though the red hot forging. I’ll think of the name of the process, just got too much tequila in my head at the moment.

There ya go, broach is the word I was looking for, but the process I saw was much simpler. Just a broach on a vertical press.

Started working on a leaky swing cylinder on the case backhoe

    never done a cylinder rebuilt

    will see how this goes

first it seems I need to upsize my tooling to at least 3/4 as 1/2 was seemingly not enough

I also had someone come and look at the Oliver crawler. I had listed it for sale. But after driving around, I stuck firm on my price and removed the listing as it is just too much fun

I also ripped out the garden

Watching the effing snow come down, that's what I'm doing today! I'm glad I winterized everything two weeks ago.

Everyone else seems to be doing cool things but me!

Plastik, there's a lot of info on the "Smokstak" forum on old gen sets if interested. Of course I'm on there due to that old military set I have.

Took out the XL250R today. I put in a new clutch and did some maintenance to it. Had a hard time starting it... It took 2 kicks. Usually starts on first kick.

Runs great. Should have done the clutch earlier. What a difference.

I was having some issues with my drill press, darn thing wouldn't drill through 22 gauge without bogging out. I fiddle farted around with it and didn't get anywhere. While working on something else it came to me, check the driven pulley! Gosh darn set screw was boogered up. Got my tools out, re aligned the pulleys on the shaft and tourqed it down, good for another 100 years I bet! Use to be a line shaft machine, I converted it to electric motor drive. Now I have some hit n miss motors, time to assemble a line shaft system!!
