So this morning we cut down our trees. Rain for 2 days turned everything into mud. Had a guy I knew that had the proper equipment to help. This skid steer with the grappling hook made quick work hauling these 22' and 32' trees. loaded onto a 28' trailer. Fun stuff, had a good time.

    Progress

I am thinking a pulley system for next year is the way to go. 2,000 lights so far I think I'll need more.

Thanks Keven. I've been doing this now for 20 years and the past 12 years or so have been these giant tree's. Each year it seems that I am adjusting the design of the stand. I haven't quite figured out how to have a design that can accommodate a 6" trunk one year and a 9 or 10" the next.
The biggest hurdle I have is getting that trunk center in the stand. That's why I'm thinking a pulley system mounted to one of the structural beams, something that I can actually suspend the tree from so I can plum it straight right down to the center of the stand.
I can say for certain that 27' is just to massive of a tree. I'll post another pic once they are all done and in place.

Took Friday off. Went up a trail I’ve never ridden before. Neat to see pine trees next to cactus . Looks like there was a fire within the past 20 years.

It was for me, but I can't say the same for the camp cook in the photo. It was raining on the way home and he came into a steep, sharp left curve a little hot. What should have been nothing more than an embarrassing low-side turned into a body slamming high-side when he decided to fight the inevitable fall. Smacked his head and knee pretty good. I thought it might be construed as childish to get my phone out and snap a few shots of him laying next to the bike before offering assistance (It was sooooo tempting though ) so there are no photos of the incident, but I can tell you that there are a few crosses on the edge of that cliff marking the fate of others that came into that corner too fast, or too drunk.

The nephew of my wife's cousin died on that same stretch of road a few weeks ago when him and his buddies stopped their car in the dark to take a leak. He walked off the road in the dark and went straight down some 300 feet. We all go out there looking for a good time, but it's not a good area to let your guard down.

EDIT: I just remembered a light hearted event worthy of sharing... the other guy in the photo decided to take a leak during one of our stops. He stuck his gloves in his chest protector, turned away from us and started to drain his bladder when one of the gloves fell out of his gear and right into the stream. Nothing better to warm your hands on a cool afternoon ride

Working on a new garden tractor, fresh off the boat from PA. Good overall condition seeing how its from the 50's. Think the track is a bit wore out. I think that will be the challenging part of the restore, next is getting the engine freed up and finding parts!

Must be Monday—- I came out this am to find a flat tire,(drywall screw)!!! I threw a tire plug in it. I will either get a new tire or patched correctly before any long trips. I remember back in highschool yrs everyone used these plugs (rubber/leathery) plugs u push in then cut off excess.
I guess I’ll see how it goes. Click image for larger version.

Shep, personally I've always considered those style plugs a permanent fix. I've been using them for decades and never seen one fail yet.

This weekend I learned how to change replace wheel bearings on a 1985 GMC 1500.

I also made this plaque/picture frame thing for my son for Christmas. My FMF pipe had a hole in it so I cut it up to make this. I used the bull dog clips to make it easy to change out pictures...

That’s kinda what I remembered, plug em + forget em.....I’ll be good if it lasts til’ spring (driving to Texas) I’ll invest in new rubber then. Course “my” floor jack was borrowed by my brother (two months ago) just found out this am-
So I used a flimsy chevy/ jeep as a backup just in case. Ya it’s been fun......Click image for larger version.
