All this talk about CDIs and stuff motivated me to try to figure out the "no spark" issue with my DR.

Looks like the coil checks out fine......that leaves the $350 cdi a suspect. Stator and pickup were all new so they checked out fine. I'm going to dip the tips of the connectors in some acid and wash away some varnish and check again but according to the manual some things don't resistance/ohm out correctly.

knappyfeet, I'm gonna make a friendly suggestion. Buy yourself a Fluke meter or something higher end. I've had a cheaper meter give me some off the wall readings before that led me down the wrong path while troubleshooting electrical issues.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

Any specific recommendation? I always considered the cheapo HF units suspect.

Fluke is always a good choice! I have a Fluke meter at work and I use a Field Piece here at my home shop. My Field Piece meter is an HVAC tech meter but it works great for mechanical applications too! Comes with an Amp Clamp and a temp probe too. A more expensive digital meter is worth every penny

    I'll get a Fluke.

It's funny.......the manual calls for a specific Suzuki Pocket tester that's an old swing meter. Apparently any other meter will give false readings for the CDI....go figure. It was told to me the amount of current is what is important on the CDI test. And an old one on ebay is as much as a Fluke.

I got a charge outta that! I'm shocked you had a punny comment to add! At least everybody liked your comment and no one put up any resistance.
