    '82 ATC 200E - Mismatched Sprockets?

    Hey fellas,

I'm overdue for replacing the sprockets and chain on my '82 200E. I tore it down the other night to take some pictures before going out on the hunt for parts and have run into a bit of confusion. It looks like a previous owner may have swapped an '83 or '84 rear axle, or at least rear sprocket, into my '82.

    Here's what I've got:

Here's what I see in the '82 200E service manual:

Here's what appears to be the most common aftermarket sprocket for an '82 200E:

And here's an '83 200 and '84-'85 200M rear sprocket, which appears to be exactly what I need.

I know that I'll need this front sprocket because of the 200E's dual range:

    Are '82 200E, '83 200, and 84-85 rear axles interchangeable?

Also, does anybody have any spare front/rear sprockets matching mine that they'd be willing to sell?

    Thanks

This would be interesting to know because I have a newer style axle I want to put on my 81.

84 and 85 you can eliminate because those are shaft drive. Could be 83 or 200M like you were suggesting.

ok let me clear up some mess here on the 82 atc 200e the bike came with a samwich style rear sprocket which needed 3 pieces to attached to the chain and to the axle. In 83 however they changed to the one peice style. Since you have the one piece style and are missing the samwich plates you are going to need the 83 kit here is the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-ATC200...VYRtAE&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the info 86125m, I went ahead and ordered the parts yesterday, I was able to get both the front and rear sprocket from Forward Powersports for $90 after shipping. I already have a new chain kickin' around that I can use.

Still curious about axle compatibility between the early years, is there an easy way to tell if the entire axle is from an '83 200 (or 84/85 200M) or if its just the sprocket assembly?

They are the same axle the 82-83 200e the 84-85 200m and the 83 plain 200 all share the same part number for the axle. More than likely it's the axle that came in the bike with the updated sprocket as the 3 piece sprocket was quite annoying I've been told.
