    Powder coating gas tank questions

I red koted the inside of my atc70 gas tank 10 years ago but I'm rebuilding the trike and will be powder coating. My question is do I need to remove the coating with acetone before they powder coat it? And if I have to remove it what can I do to prevent it from rusting while they do it? I'd hate to put muriatic acid in it to etch it and get it on the coating.

Second is I have a dent on the front of the tank from the steering stop being bent and the forks going too far and hitting the tank. How can I fix this so it can be powder coated? I don't think I can use bondo so what do I use? Jb weld? Real weld?

All I can tell you is PC is usually 375 - 400 degrees.

I'd ask Red Kote if it can withstand that heat for up to 20 minutes.

I have shot over jb weld with good results but i put in on pretty thin. A really good local coater suggested something called metal-lab as a filler but it really need to be put on thin also.

It says in their instructions it will turn to ash if heated above 250 degrees. Guess I'll have to remove it

How big is the dent? Got a pic? Put something next to the dent for a size perspective, like a dollar bill, pop can, quarter, etc.

I use lab metal for the dents. Powder will be attracted to it but it can only be heated to 400 degrees once, unless you buy the high heat type. Lab metal does seem to shrink a little. I have used jb weld on smaller dents but you have to hot flock the part.
