    85 Honda 200x '

So I have decided to somewhat start restoring my 200x. My dad actually bought it in 85 and kept it in great shape. But it has just been sitting around so I have decided to take it off his hands. I am making this thread to keep somewhat of a log for me and to get to know some of the members here. I'll be trying to post pics of as much as I can of the project. Click image for larger version.

Getting ready to do some painting. Gonna sand em down and wire brush most of the stuff, then I'll re paint them all black. Some parts are pretty well rusted underneath so I'll have to take care of that.

    I second that vote.

Here are my thoughts: the machine looks to be in VERY good condition from the pics you posted. If you are really planning on restoring it, then you'll want to use methods that put it back into equal or better condition than new. Please don't take the comment as too negative, but just wire brushing and spray painting will end up with less than you have now. Spray paint will look nice until you ride. I think in the long run, it will wind up looking worse than it does right now.

Sandblasting and powder coating are definitely more costly, but the results will last much longer.

Personally, my vote would be to do some disassembly, clean everything very well, lube bearings, replace anything worn out, and reassembly and ride!

    Good luck with the project!

So I have decided to do like members have suggested and have the parts sand blasted and powder coated. Just need to find someone in my area who does it. Do you guys have any recommendations as to what all parts I should powder coat? In example should I have the handle bars done for the heck of it? I don't want some stuff to look so to say better then other parts. I guess for now I'll just keep tearing it apart and cleaning everything as I put it back together. But since the 200 is outta commission I'll just have some fun with my 250 trax

I am biased, but my guys in St. Louis are some of the best IMO. Their website is below.

I am soooo......jealous of your nice seat and fender.

It looks very nice. I have never been a fan of blasting. Walnut, etc are better choices but more $$. I like to chemically remove finishes with a power washer when I can.

It is very nice and original looking. I'd be tempted to keep sliders clear coated instead of black.

So until I get home I can't drop the parts off to get them powder coated so I have started to polish up all the metal things. Also wanted to give a huge shoutout to a fellow member for sending me a fork slider replacement! Managed to buff out most of the scratches and polish everything. I gotta say I am super pleased with how it turned out, so good that I am gonna keep them silver instead of painting them black to keep that original look.

So I have gotten everything back together. Runs like brand new. Only problem is the bolts snapped off where the heat shield is Anyone have any advice? I thought about welding it back on but that was gonna be my last resort.

Could you actually cut off the whole thing and then weld a nut back in place? It may not be original, but you will only see h head of the blot when the heat shield is back on.
