MPDano NEW Project: 1986 Honda Fat Cat TR200

    Guys,

I'm back with a new project but this one is totally complete as far as I know. You all can tell me. This is a true runner. First thing I did after offloading it off my trailer, was to take a few laps around my neighborhood. This thing is super fun. I LOVE IT!!

Carburetor definitely needs attention. There were a few flat spots but nothing a stab of throttle didn't cure. She shifts in all gears. A bit hard but that is how the 250SX I restored was as well. No rear brakes, but gonna put some new shoes on it after a good R&R. She fires right up with the electric start. Both low and high beam lights work great.

This one is a keeper for sure.

Ha ha. Yeah, I had to get permission from the wife. My intentions were to use the funds from my 250SX sale while I sell my Joyner Buggy and Eton Rover to buy a Yamaha Rhino 4 seater for the family. Then that Craigslist alert had to tell me there was a Fat Cat for sale. Jumped on it as I created this alert last year. I see a few of the Yamaha Big Wheels out there but never a Fat Cat. Couldn't resist. I am weak. Lol.

    Ok, first purchases.

    1) Fat Cat Decal Kit

    2) EBC Brake Shoes

Can't seem to find a carb rebuild kit for these Keihin Carbs TR200's. Lot's of chinese knock offs. I am thinking of just trying out one of the under $20 carbs. Has anyone tried a Mikuni equivalent on these Fat Cats?

Anyways, the dismantling begins this weekend. She gets a good pressure wash first.

Rear Foot and hand brakes were swapped as far as the rear drum lever, so now it has a little bit of brakes. Going to still R&R it with new shoes to get it to work as it should.

Ok, did a little digging and it was mentioned that a 86-87 ATC 200X carburetor is identical. I started looking at the pieces and they do look the same.

Ok, ordered a ATC 200X Carb Rebuild Kit and a new Chain. Besides some paint, this should do it. Next is the disassembly, the take apart the carb enjoy it's bath in some Berrymans.

    Nice find!
If you're looking for decals, check out "Wicked Tough." The oem decals were thin, non-uv, and wore badly from your knees. After applying, a couple clear coats should keep them happy.
That rear rack is a super bonus! About $200 value and more importantly, will keep the rear fender from cracking, which most have already done.
A few touches of paint after a thorough cleaning and this will be a beaut!

Thanks! It is currently totally apart. Painted the einge and frame over the weekend. Plus a bunch of small parts. Waiting now on some replacement parts I ordered. Had to notch out the rear engine mount to free up the bolt. Plus smashed my finger with a sledge, that's another story, lol. I'll post up the progress pics when I get home.

Painted pieces and some new parts. Rebuilt carb . Found a TR200 Clutch Cover on eBay and stripped and painted it.

Not much done yesterday after work. Had to catch up on the Walking Dead, lol. Installed new shock boots I had laying around from an ATC project. I know blue would have been prime but couldn't see these black ones never being used. Also, drained the old fluid from the shocks and filled them up with some Dex/Merc ATF. 6.7 ounces to be per specs.
