    1984 atc 250r smokes a lot

Wondering why my 250r is boggy and smokes a lot. I just bought a new carb rebuild kit going back to stock jets hoping it would help but nothing. Seems to run a little better with out the muffler. First time owning one of these badass machines just need some suggestions

Could be a bad clutch side crank seal , when they go bad it will suck tranny fluid and have the symptoms your talking about .

You will know when your tranny fluid is low for no other reason .

Are you running too much oil in the gas?

    1. Put the muffler back on. It's needed to stuff the crank case and is an essential part of your exhaust system.
    2. If you took the clutch cover off oil would go everywhere because the clutch side is in an oil bath. Do you mean you took off the stator cover?
    3. What carb are you running and what size jets? Also need to know the needle clip position. Are you running an airbox? What kind of air filter is it equipped with?

Muffler is back on. it was only off for about an hour to see if it was clogged. And yes sorry it was the stator cover. Im running a kiehen carb with the stock jet which i believe are 130 and 45 or 50. I have the clip set in the middle which i believe is 3. I am running a air box with a aftermarket air filter

I've never used klotz, but since the manual says to use 20:1, you may need less oil since technology has improved in oils. For instance, I use Lucas 2 stroke oil and run my mix at 90:1 per the bottle conversion chart.
