Atc 250r 1984 purchased from original owner

So the other day, I managed to seal the deal on a air fooler 250r. Its totally original and has been in storage for the past 10 years. The original owner only used it to put around following her kids. It still has crazy compression still on original piston and rings. The owner put contact on all fenders, tank and headlight to protect them in 1984 which worke really well. I'm in the process of pulling it off and restoring these parts. The rear rack looks somewhat home made? It needs a mild overhaul but nothing crazy as I plan to ride it, I may buy some maier plastics so I done ruin the oem ones. It starts easy and will be a fun reliable bike to ride. I'll post updates of my progress of getting this up to scratch. It even has the original tool kit under the seat with all the tools! Might take a while as I have a 70 build going atm and a ktm engine to finish rebuilding

Nice score! What is this "contact" that was put on the fenders? A clear removeable covering?

Yeah pretty Much, It peels off leaving the plastic in new condition after cleaning the residue off.

Good idea to save the NOS plastics. You'll never regret it once you have the new ones paid for.

    Thumbs up

I would swap out all of the old hoses and make sure the gas tank and carb were cleaned out but you probably did all of that already

Front fender also came up pretty well so far. There's a few scatches that will need some buffing but

Headlight Cowel/shroud came up really well.

I'm thinking that the rear axle carrier bearings need replacing, so stripping that down is next on the agenda.

I just peeled the contact off, and used some novus plastic shine. They still need a more agressive buff though.

So I've been chipping away at the bike, rear axle and carrier came out today with no major issues. A new set of bearins, seals and a good clean and she will be back together.
But before that I plan to regrease all of the swingarm linkages while it the axles out. Hopefully none of the linkage bits need replacing but the regreasing and cleaning will make it easier to disasemble in future when it will.

Will rebuild the rear caliper as it seemed to be a bit siezed up. Will post pics of the caliper rebuild, stay posted.
