    1983 yamaha tri moto 225dx project

    Hello I just joined to talk to people about 3 wheelers, and get some ideas on my project.

    I bought this wheeler for $300 with the motor tore apart and bought another motor for $75. So far I added warrior bars, lights,and grab bar from my 97 warrior parts frame. I was told it is a 83 the only plastics I have are the front fender and the right side plastic.

ID:	245156 The yellow rear rims are off of a 1995 Banshee that I've been dragging around since the late 90's. Someday, I'm going to have all three pwoder coated Either a lght blue similar to the fenders or maybe a silver.

    Yep. it's a 225 going by the shape of the gas tank. I guessing that the exhaust is going to be loud. To get the engine on and off, you have to remove the swingarm.Click image for larger version.

ID:	245187 Here's with the dx engine on, no engine, and then with the dr engine on. I didn't think it was too hard. I don't even remember using the manual, although I had it with me just in case.

    Ok that makes sense taking the swing arm off, I was wondering how I would connect the shaft. Yes the exhaust will be loud I think it's a cobra pipe, I have one on my warrior and that thing is really loud.

    I found another type that I'd like to try out some day. the brand is MBRP. They have a quiet series with a spark arrester that's supposed to have better flow than stock. If i remember right, I found it on ebay. I don't know if you like loud exhaust on not. Personally, I don't. That's why the stock exhaust is still on it for now.

    Ok so I looked at the numbers on the 3 wheeler and both motors I have for it, and I found that the motor that I got with it has matching numbers. My question is what motor should I put together ?

    If it helps here are the numbers on the motors:

    Matching #s motor - 29U-06813

    Spare motor - 29U -092819

    I'd say use which ever one needs less to get it running. If one has a bad rod bearing, don't use it. If one has very little wear in the cylinder, I'd have it honed, put new rings in and use it. Mine has a Timberwolf cylinder on the YTM bottom end. If you're worried about resale value, use the original one no matter what your have to spend on it. I don't think that matching engine numbers will make a cery big difference in the value of your trike. The only time that I'd worry about the value is if it was in extremely original condition which yours isn't. Neither is mine so I'm not trying to trash talk your trike. I just make it mine and don't worry about what I put into it versus what I could get out of it if I sell it. I like it and try to make so I like it better.     Ok thanks again for responding and I appreciate your input !!! I didn't know if one motor was better than the other, but after looking into the numbers they are both 1984 so it's not a 83. I want to build something the way I want it like you said and I'm not worried about resell value. I really like the banshee hubs and wheels on yours, I didn't know they would fit so now I'm going to get another set of warrior hubs and wheels for mine. I like the rack and led lights on yours, and it would look great if you powder coated everything blue like you mentioned.

    Yep. The warrior hubs should fit too. This gives you A LOT better selection for rims in the future. I also figured that since I already had the rims, what I spent on the hubs and what I'd have to spend om wheel spacers would be about what the three bolt spacers would cost. That's going through my mind because I really like the 1.5" spacers I put on my 250SX.

    I don't have any experience with skis since it usually doesn't snow enough here to need one. That said, it looks good to me. Your limiting factor is always the rear tires. Once they sink, you're done.
