    Honda ATC200M rebuild questions

Hi I am looking to rebuild my ATC soon and I have a few questions. It smokes a lot so I think I will need at least new rings but likely a bore with new piston and rings.

While its apart I want to do timing chain and guides (I have heard best is DID cam chains as there are multiple chinese chain lengths but only one ATC length) Any particular brand of guides that are best?

I would like to redo the valves as well. What is the best place to buy new valves and can I do the valve lapping myself or is it better to outsource that to a machine shop?

If I do need new pistons and rings, I have considered buying a stock 200X piston and rings for a little more power than stock and possibly a 200X or XR200 cam. Are these worthwhile upgrades and will the other cams fit right in? Worth it for Weisco pistons or would something like Shindy work just as well? Not planning on racing or anything.

    Thanks

G&H discount atv supply should have the guides and it is best to go with a D.I.D chain. You shouldn't have to buy new valves just lap the originals. As for the lapping you can do it yourself its easy just buy the lapping tool and valve grinding compound and spin the tool back and forth whilst it is attached to the valve to grind it in to the seat. I'm rebuilding my 200s right now and am using a stock 200x piston cam and carb. That should wake it up a bit and the parts all fit in without modification. The 10.25:1 wiseco is another option that you could go for, since you have electric start (it would get old pulling that much compression over, over and over again).

Ok, thanks. If I were to go with a 200X piston and cam would I need to use the larger carb or would the stock 200M carb work ok?

I would likely go with just a stock 200X piston, not really interested in a 10.25:1 piston. It does have a decompression valve though so that ought to help with the higher pressure.

As far as the head and base gaskets go is OEM Honda the better way to go vs aftermarket such as Vesrah?

I would go with the 200x carb, but an oem one not a knock-off. OEM Honda gaskets are hard to find since they don't make the anymore, so vesrah gaskets are just fine
