    New Yamaha!

I just picked up a yamaha 3 wheeler for $50, the guy selling said it was a 1982 yt175 but people on here told me it was a 125. It does not run so Im hoping to get as much info on here as possible in order to get it running. first off, Im in the process of taking the engine off but Im only as far as the exhaust. After the engine is off I will be taking it to school and tearing it apart there and putting new rings in it. The guy told me that it wasnt getting any fuel to the cylinder but I have not checked for myself, it does have spark and compression. It has a throttle cable, but no throttle to hook it up to and Im not sure what kind of throttle these came with stock. Here is the link to the craigslist ad that I bought it from: https://lincoln.craigslist.org/snw/d...264703913.html Im hoping someone can help with where I can get parts and what I should do while I have it apart and what I need to do to get it running.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

See if you can get a Wiseco piston set for it. Other than that try the 3 wheeler world parts store here to find a carb.

Do not buy a piston kit unless you need one.

I dont think I will be replacing the piston unless I absolutely have to, is there performance benefits to wiseco pistons or is it just durability or other reasons?

No benefit whatsoever as long as your stock piston is in good shape and within spec. You might not even have to replace your rings either. When you get it apart, measure the bore as well as the ring gap. If everything checks out, I'd run a quick hone through it and run it. If things are out of spec, then you can decide what parts you'll need.

a good way to increase performance for cheap is a set of boyesen reeds. You can pick up a throttle on ebay. Another thing I did was I got rid of the 2-stroke oil pump and pre mix my gas.

How do you get rid of the oil pump? Also what do boyesen reeds do/ and how hard are they to install?

Do not get rid of the oil injection pump. It's very handy not having to mix your gas and the oil injection system almost never fails.

Yes, don't get rid of the oil pump! I just fill mine right up and you don't have to worry about it for ages! Also I put in boyesen reeds in mine took no time at all! But make sure you don't damage the intake gasket! I brought the reeds and a spare gasket just in case.

Reeds are requirement for your engine to run. Worn reeds will not do their job properly. I don't know if your current reeds are any good or not, but for $30 or whatever they are they're usually worth replacing while you're in there.
