    350x head

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to (if possible) to resurface a cylinder head?? My 350x head is warped and lodi g compression (not that it matters seeing as it has 220 psi as is).. I just don't want to do anymore damage to the bike it's been parked since I discovered this issue

    .

How do you know it is warped?

If it is not warped too much you can surface it yourself on a granite countertop or a flat machined surface like a table saw etc.

If it is warped too much to do by hand or you don't have any rich friends with granite countertops their ol' ladys will let you use, you can get it surfaced at some automotive machine shops or regular machine shops that have a large table belt sander. This will cost far less than milling it flat.

I wouldn't trust a stock type gasket with that much compression if that is what you are using and would consider getting a high performance one like MLS or copper. Cometic is one of a few companies that can make them.

    1. clean the gasket surface sealing area with lacquer thinner.

    2. color surface with a black felt pen.

    3. place a piece of 400 grit sand paper on a granite counter top or polished marble floor tile or window pane (with tape) next to the frame.

    4. spray water on the sand paper.

    5. place the head on the paper then rotate it around 4 or 5 times then look at it and post a photo of it. if most of the felt marker is gone it is flat enough to be sealed with a gasket.

I was asked for pictures of the head I have but they wouldnt load in the PM box so I posted them here. The head was dropped and one and a fin was damaged so I took it to a very qualified motor machinest Sam Coe and he tig welded and fixed it perfectly. This head is one of the lowest hour heads you'll find around. It was on the trike for almost 2 yrs then removed so the XR 500 head could be installed. Ive had it stored ever sense. Im the original owner on this head. The trike was running perfectly when it was removed.

Sam does a lot of work for me. I stay in contact with him. He's local. He built the very 1st 350x with a 500xr head on it and sleeved my cylinder with a 500 sleeve back in 1987. He's a mad scientist for sure. This is the head from that motor
