    200X tires for trail riding

I have a 1983 200X that I use to ride trails in southern Nevada. Most are rocky with frequent wash outs. I am thinking that taller rear tires might be a good idea for more ground clearance. Like big red rear wheels and tires. What do you all think? Thanks, Dan

22's are what you're after my friend. I highly recommend 2 ply 22 inch tires of a balloon style.

22s are too big. I ran 18s and loved it. You can miss the rocks it's not that hard.

I definitely disagree. We ride in huge rocks up here. You can get away with 20's but your arse is going to be hurting before lunch and you won't be able to keep up with the pack. 18's, absolutely no.

I ride a lot of rocky trails here in so cal on a 350x and with 20" tires I used my skid plate ALOT. With 22" tires seems to miss almost all of em. I'd worry with 24" or 26" you'd be tail high and throw off the center of gravity. Also the power loss plus the extra spring weight on your rear shock. Maxxis makes an all track m9209 , 2 ply rated 22 x 11 8 9 or 10 " rims. Also Duro makes one called the mud and sand 2 ply and they run pretty tall. About 23" with 4 psi.

You'll never get a flat with the Trailpro but don't run over anyone with them, ouch!

Definitely would go 11" on width, a 12" width is to much added mass in a 4-ply anyway.Dont ask me how i know about either statement.

I run 20" paddles in coal and massive rocks. No issues, still like 18s best...even my 20" mud lites measure 19" just learn to pick a easy line thru rocks.

Old Stool you're ridiculous. I've been riding for almost 30 years and had all kinds of tires. My best guess is you don't know what riding in rocks is. I took a machine with 18's on it to the mountains once for a day of riding, and one time only. It flat out did not work.

As I said, you can get away with 20's but 22's are your best bet, and that's from years of first hand experience riding. I'd love to take you riding in the mountains with your 18's then have you come reply to this thread. You are giving terrible advice right now.

Everyone, thanks for the advice. No votes for going larger than 22 inches, so I will stay with what I have on now. I am running Kenda scorpion 22x11x8.

The Kenda Scorpions usually measure closer to 20" from what I have read on here.

If you must have a taller tire, the replicas of atc250r /trx250r rears did good. I ran stock 400ex tires once. They slid good yet.

Thanks for the tip. I measured mine, you are correct 20.5 inches at 3 PSI.
