Does the 225DX have the VM22 or the VM24 Carb? (Service Manual is Wrong???)
I noticed that the service manual for the 225DX says that it is supposed to have a VM22 carb. But I also heard the manual is wrong, and that it is supposed to have the VM24 carb, not the VM22.
Which one is it supposed to have?
Also, they only made the 225DX for 3 years (1983, 1984, and 1985), right?
And EVERYTHING including the carb (and jets etc.) are exactly the same for ALL 3 years with the 225DX, right?
Last but def. not least, are the carb settings stated in the service manual CORRECT, other than the model of the carb (VM22 is what it says)????
IE: are these settings right:
Model: 29U00
Main Jet 112.5
Main Air Jet 1.6
Jet Needle / Position: 5L10 / 3
Needle Jet: N-8
Pilot Jet: 20
Pilot Air Jet 60
Starter Jet 65
You can learn a lot browsing and comparing the part numbers on the link below. As far as I know the 225 carb is larger than the 200K carb, but because they were proprietary I don't know what the Mikuni terminology or size is. they have an oval throat and I don't know if you would measure the width, height or both and divide by two to determine the size.
The manual tells you the base settings, the "correct" setting is a moving target. I'm pretty sure the base settings were the same for all the 225's
The manual tells the CORRECT base settings though right?
I don't care if my jetting is spot on for my elevation/temp etc.
Its an air cooled 1985 ATC with like what, 10 HP if I'm lucky?
Not too worried about jetting it any closer than the stock specs
But I DO need a good (and the RIGHT) carb for this thing, that ISN'T all messed up / messed with by a bunch of idiots (good luck on that for the most part.)
I checked, and that link you gave me doesn't have any info on the actual carb manufacturer & model. It just says 29U, which I think is more of a yamaha part number.
Thought it had the VM24, now that I think back to my friends old 225dx.
Also, the service manual says that the 1985 225DRN (N = 1985) has the VM22, but that is wrong too.
I have a Yamaha Owners Manuals for the 1985 225DR (N), and it says that the carburetor is in fact the Mikuni VM24, just like the 225DX
All 3 years of the 225DX have the VM24, and the same exact jets / components inside the carb.
The 1985 225DR has all of the same jet sizes and components as the 225DX, except for one thing: the start jet size (it has a size 80 starter jet, and the 225dx has a size 65 starter jet.)
The 1986 225DR has the VM24 carb, but the jets etc. are different for that year.
