Here's a pic of my old X. Good luck.
Now that right there is a dream machine.
I started out on an '84 then sold it for an '85 then jumped to the 350's.
I like the 2nd gen changes too.

Great, I just found rockers and I also found a cam from a '86 trx200sx. They're on the way.
I havent opened up the stator side yet but if the pattern remains true there will be missing parts, red goop and weld.

If you had wanted, there are OFTEN complete top ends for those in really good shape. Everyone builds the 83 to 85's; So I can find that top end easy.

There were a few running from 100$ to as much as 250$, but everything was in great shape, never ran low on oil by the looks of the parts.

I don't need anymore top ends!!

I wouldn't reuse your chain and I'd check the clearances on the oil pump. They sprockets might "look good" but that chain stretches and it sure doesn't look like anyones done any type of maintenance on it....
All our government does is distract us while they steal from us, misspend our tax $ and ruin our country

I agree, I'll get a new chain, they're still available for around $45.00.
I saw the top ends and full motors on eBay but I was worried about getting another of what I've got without paying $500.00 or more. I'll keep my eye open for another parts machine around here.
    I'm getting hooked.

Once I get in there I may be able to fabricate something to take #14's place.

Well I'm happy again. The rings for the 350 #3 showed up yesterday and my 200 bottom end showed up today.
I'll probably re-ring the 350 first because I have a cam and rockers coming for the 200 yet.
It's getting tough to list priorities but as long as you do something its all good.

I believe I can do a good repair on it but it makes me wonder if this is a major weakness in these machines or are there others like the '85 350's left side frame break?

Looks to me it may have rusted out from the inside? Also from crud sitting trapped between engine skid and frame. If i remember right there’s weep holes to let moisture/water out down there, if clogged water would sit and cause the damage you have.
That looks bad, i think i’d start looking for a different frame “its only money right” ha
The only one hairline crack i’ve ever seen on a 86/87 is one by the rear seat rubber area. (From a overweight rider i think)
Looking at your pics that whole side lower cradle is crusty,

    Good luck
Maybe its time to get the 350 done.
Sorry, doing my taxes today so i’m a lil’ grumpy

Maybe someone can hook you up with a good frame, that looks compromised and hate to see you build up everything else and use that frame
