Or even another damaged frame with a good cradle.

Yeah, guys, it just a little discouraging. I've seen frames on eBay around the two to three hundred dollar range.
I am going to drop back 10 on this one but I'm not ready to punt yet.

I ran into a similar issue with my cr500. A little rot in the cradle. I did find a street legal Oregon frame though

Would you need to buy a titled frame or just a solid one?

Just a solid one. As long as it doesn't come up stolen. I can get a regristration made as a rebuild.
The only thing Ohio needs is a registration to operate on public lands or to drive alongside the roads.
At least it was that way when I did it in '93.

Dirtcrasher, did you receive my pm?
I think I'm going to get the motor buttoned up at least and see what develops on the frame.

So I couldn't let it go. I hate scrapping anything on these machines.
I know earlier in this thread I was slamming "weldors" but now I are one.
I decided since the frame was junk I'd see how junky it was. So I cut it until I got to good metal.

Why not? You could probably buy the same od tubing, same wall thickness, and cut out what you need. Weld it in and your good to go. Another 200x frame saved.

I made some 3/4 wide by 1/4 inserts and fitted them to the holes.

I've had 200x's in the day and they are GREAT machines. I can tell you though, buy a good one.
I've got a lot of money tied up in this one but I really want to see it through. Labor of love for sure.

Only the 2nd gen are square.

Yes, but you're welding it to fix it properly. The welding done previously, was because someone was too lazy to fix it the right way the first time.

Nice job saving the frame. You didn't grind away all of the weld you just laid down did you? It kind of looks that way in the pics.

No, that's why I went with 1/4" thick stock. I wanted good penetration.

    Don't say it!

That's tire lubricant, helps the trikes slide better. Goes away when it gets warm though haha.
