We should watch who scoops up all the Facebook stock when cheap. If it is a progressive billionaire or consortium that promises to ‘save’ and ‘fix’ Facebook, then this attack was planned and coordinated, and it is how deep state will ensure that only they and their progressive friends benefit in the future from social media platforms. Facebook won't go down or disappear, it will become more dangerous while we get an illusion that it was fixed.

ETA: It is facinating to see Facebook chastised and persecuted in the press for doing the very same things that got them praised when it benefitted 0bama and progressives. Hypocracy on parade.

Facebook is Killing Democracy with Personality Profiling Data

Read this article today and figured I would share:

Facebook is worth billions of dollars because it harvests your data and sells it toadvertisers.
    TimothySummers, University of Maryland
What stateshould you move to based on your personality? What character on “Downton Abbey”would you be? What breed of dog is best for you? Some enormous percentage of Facebook’s2.13 billion users must have seen Facebook friends sharingresults of various online quizzes. They are sometimes annoying, senseless and atotal waste of time. But theyare irresistible. Besides, you’re only sharing the results with yourfamily and friends. There’s nothing more innocent, right?
    Wrong.
Facebook isin the businessof exploiting your data. The company is worth billions of dollarsbecause it harvestsyour data and sells it to advertisers. Users are encouraged tolike, share and comment their lives away in the name of staying connected tofamily and friends. However, as anethical hacker, security researcher and data analyst, I know thatthere is a lot more to the story. The bedrockof modern democracy is at stake.
    You Are Being PsychographicallyProfiled

Most peoplehave heard of demographics – the term used by advertisers to slice up a marketby age, gender, ethnicity and other variables to help them understandcustomers. In contrast, psychographics measure people’s personality, values, opinions, attitudes, interests and lifestyles. They help advertisers understandthe way you act and who you are.
Historically, psychographic data were much harder to collectand act on than demographics. Today, Facebook is the world’slargest treasure trove of this data. Every day billions of people give thecompany huge amounts of information about their lives and dreams.
This isn’t aproblem when the data are used ethically – like when a company shows you an adfor a pair of sunglasses you recently searched for.
However, itmatters a lot when the data are used maliciously – segmenting society intodisconnected echo chambers, and custom-crafting misleading messages tomanipulate individuals’ opinions and actions.
That’sexactly what Facebook allowed to happen.
Quizzes, Reading Your Mind, PredictingYour Politics

Recentreports have revealed how Cambridge Analytica, a U.K.-based company owned by an enigmaticbillionaire and led at the time by candidate Donald Trump’s keyadviser Steve Bannon, used psychographic data from Facebook to profile Americanvoters in the months before the 2016 presidential election. Why? To target themwith personalizedpolitical messages and influencetheir voting behavior.
Awhistleblower from Cambridge Analytica, Christopher Wylie, described in detailhow the company exploited Facebook users by harvesting their data and buildingmodels to “targettheir inner demons.”
    How didFacebook let this happen?
The companydoes more than just sell your data. Since the early 2000s, Facebook hasprovided access to academicresearchers seeking to study you. Many psychologists and socialscientists have made their careers analyzingways to predict your personality and ideologies by askingsimple questions. These questions, like the ones used in social media quizzes,do not appear to have obvious connections to politics. Even a decision likewhich web browser you are using to read this article is filledwith clues about your personality.
In 2015,Facebook gave permission to academic researcher AleksandrKogan to develop a quiz of his own. Like other quizzes, his was ableto capture allof your public information, including name, profile picture, age, gender and birthday; everything you’ve ever posted on your timeline; yourentire friends list; all of your photos and the photos you’re tagged in;education history; hometown and current city; everything you’ve ever liked; andinformation about the device you’re using including your web browser andpreferred language.
Kogan sharedthe data he collected with Cambridge Analytica, which was against Facebookpolicy – but apparently the company rarelyenforced its rules.
    Going Shopping for ImpressionableUsers

Analyzingthese data, Cambridge Analytica determined topics that would intrigue users, what kind of political messaging users were susceptible to, how to frame themessages, the content and tone that would motivate users, and how to get themto share it with others. It compiled a shoppinglist of traits that could be predicted about voters.
Then thecompany was able to createwebsites, ads and blogs that would attract Facebook users andencourage them to spread the word. InWylie’s words: “they see it … they click it … they go down therabbit hole.”
This is howAmerican voters were targeted with fake news, misleadinginformation and contradictorymessages intended to influence how they voted – or ifthey voted at all.
This is howFacebook users’ relationships with family and friends are being exploited formonetary profit, and for politicalgain.
    Knowingly Putting Users at Risk

Facebookcould have done more to protect users.
The companyencouraged developers to build apps for its platform. In return, the apps hadaccess to vast amounts of user data – supposedly subject to those rulesthat were rarely enforced. But Facebook collected 30 percent ofpayments made through the apps, so its business interest made it want moreapps, doing more things.
People whodidn’t fill out quizzes were vulnerable, too. Facebook allowed companies likeCambridge Analytica to collect personal data of friends of quiz takers, withouttheir knowledge or consent. Tensof millions of people’s data were harvested – and many moreFacebook users could have been affected by other apps.
    Changing Culture & Politics

In a videointerview with the Observer, Wylie explained that “Politics flows from culture … you have to change thepeople in order to change culture.”
That’sexactly what Facebook enabled Cambridge Analytica to do. In 2017, the company’sCEO boasted publicly that it was “able to use data to identify … very largequantities of persuadable voters … that couldbe influenced to vote for the Trump campaign.”
To exert thatinfluence, Cambridge Analytica – which claims to have 5,000data points on every Americanusedpeople’s data to psychologically nudge them toalter their behaviors in predictable ways.
This includedwhat became known as “fake news.” In an undercover investigation, Britain’sChannel 4 recordedCambridge Analytica executives expressing their willingness todisseminate misinformation, with its CEO saying, “these are things that don’tnecessarily need to be true, aslong as they’re believed.”
U.S. societywas unprepared: 62percent of American adults get news on social media, and many peoplewho see fake news stories reportthat they believe them. So Cambridge Analytica’s tactics worked: 115 pro-Trump fake storieswere shared on Facebook a total of 30 million times. In fact, the most popular fake news stories were morewidely shared on Facebook than the most popular mainstream news stories.
For this psychologicalwarfare, the Trump campaign paidCambridge Analytica millions of dollars.
    Healthy Dose of Skepticism

U.S. historyis filled with stories of people sharing their thoughts in the public square. If interested, a passerby could come and listen, sharing in the experience ofthe narrative.
By combiningpsychographic profiling, analysis of big data and admicro-targeting, public discourse in the U.S. has entered a new era. What used to be a public exchange of information and democratic dialogue is nowa customized whisper campaign: Groups both ethical and malicious can divideAmericans, whispering into the ear of each and every user, nudging them basedon their fears and encouraging them to whisper to others who share those fears.
ACambridge Analytica executive explained: “There are two fundamentalhuman drivers … hopes and fears … and many of those are unspoken and evenunconscious. You didn’t know that was a fear until you saw something thatevoked that reaction from you. Our job is … to understand those reallydeep-seated underlying fears, concerns. It’s no good fighting an electioncampaign on the facts because actually it’s all about emotion.”
Theinformation that you shared on Facebook exposed your hopes and fears. Thatinnocent-looking Facebook quiz isn’t so innocent.
The problemisn’t that this psychographic data were exploited at a massive scale. It’s thatplatforms like Facebook enable people’s data to be used in ways that take poweraway from voters and give it to data-analyzing campaigners.
In my view, this kills democracy. Even Facebook can see that, saying in January that at itsworst, social media “allowspeople to spread misinformation and corrode democracy.”
My advice:Use Facebook with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Not a shot at you sledcrazy, but it's interesting that your article mentions none of this:

    https://ijr.com/2018/03/1077083-ex-o...n-director-fb/

In a Sunday tweet thread, Carol Davidsen, former director of integration and media analytics for Obama for America, said the 2012 campaign led Facebook to “suck out the whole social graph” and target potential voters. They would then use that data to do things like append their email lists.
“They came to office in the days following election recruiting & were very candid that they allowed us to do things they wouldn’t have allowed someone else to do because they were on our side,” Davidsen tweeted.

Zuckerberg has tried to hide his crimes by lying about Russian ads and hiding his Template to Win, but the head of the Global Engagement Center has told the press that he used Facebook to target and attack U.S. citizens throughout the election.

Zuckerberg must now answer to why Yuri Milner and other Russians own large amounts of Facebook shares. Mark also needs to answer why his best friend and investor (200 Million), the Russian Yuri Milner now lives in Silicon Valley and buys political and corporate support like popcorn.

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-...r-hopes-asylum

Over 1,500 Central Americans are on a crusade across Mexico in the hopes of being granted asylum at the U.S. border - a move which is set to pose an enormous challenge to the Trump administration's much campaigned about immigration policies, while reminding Trump's base that they still don't have the wall they elected him to build 14 months into his presidency.

"We want to become one, supporting us shoulder to shoulder and show that together we can break down borders," say the caravan's organizers.
Setting out six days ago and marching under the slogan "Migrantes en la lucha" ("Migrants in the Fight") during holy week, the caravan comprised mostly of Hondurans was organized roughly a month ago by the mysterious group Pueblo Sin Fronteras (People Without Borders) - which solicited donations via Facebook and encouraged volunteers to contact them.

''Our mission is to provide shelter and safety to migrants and refugees in transit, accompany them in their journey, and together demand respect for our human rights," reads the group's mission statement.

Interesting to note is that there is also a mass "border assault" by Palestinians at roughly the same time. Coincidence?

I say that liberals who don't believe in borders should remove all fences from around their homes, all door locks, remove all security systems because all peoples should have access, despite criminal records, to every inch of America no matter what.....just like they want. See how long that lasts.

I say the working class here pull off an Atlas Shrugged and all move out at once and turn Belize into Gault's Gulch. Within six months, our point would be made. Then they'd all seek "refuge" in Belize after we built it into something great.

Just don't move in next to John McAfee. I heard he murders his neighbors over their barking dogs.

The other day someone was telling me about how Western Europeans stole all of America from indigenous people and we should all go back home.....so I says, "Great. I'll be on the first boat back to Western Europe and us indigenous Western Europeans will send all those other invaders back to their homelands as well.".....he didn't like that so much as the other way around. Think before speaking.

“We are going to be guarding our border with our military. That’s a big step,” Trump told reporters gathered at the White House. “We cannot have people flowing into our country illegally, disappearing, and by the way never showing up for court.”
