    Tank strainer question

I'd like to know where the thick rubber washer goes? I don't remember seeing one when I took it apart. Pic will hopefully come thru.Click image for larger version.

It's a fuel strainer that goes inside a big red tank.

I would assume it goes inside the petcock but that screws to the tank..

Yup, what shortline said. See the spot on your filter tube where it is solid all the way around (near the middle)? The rubber part should be slid onto the brass tube so that when the filter tube is pushed on, the rubber sits right at that solid section.

Thanks for the replies, it's funny but when I took it apart there was no sign of a washer in the old strainer. I wonder did it dissolve over time or was it left out after a repair by the previous owner, hopefully it's the latter.
