Can old damaged plastic be painted after repairs? I mean REALLY painted. I've seen them painted many times. They always look like a blind quadriplegic monkey did it with rattle spray.
I would never try this on GOOD plastic but if I can repair a set of fenders I have that are pretty mangled and find a filler that'll hold to smooth things out, I might try.
I am NOT a paint and body man BTW.

No, not really. the problem is that the paint just doesn't like to stick to plastic as the plastics flex and the other problem is that for the same flex problem filler is just not going to stick permanently.

I agree, I've painted a lot of plastic fenders over the years and they look great but as 125m said once the crack from flexing there goes your paint.Originally Posted by 86125m

Plastic dip works. I too have 2 sets as of now that look great (plastic ones) Just saying a flex or bend of the fenders starts to crack em. Believe me I have prepped these more than most would and like I said they look and for the most part are holding up great.

I may try some peel coat or truck bed coating in the future for riders. If it starts to look bad give it another rattlecan coat. Even wondering about trying some shrink wrap.

I have painted a set of scoops for my 250r! I make sure I prep them and clean them first! Cleaned with repsol and give them a light sand so the paint can stick to it! We then put a coat of plastic primer first then 2 coats of paint then a clear coat. It’s the same as a car bumper. But we do it in a proper panel and paint shop. Below is what they turned out like. Then after this photo I just use a electric buffer to get it shiny.
