Any Interest for NEW Neutral/Reverse Light Socket Sub Harness (250es/sx, 200es/m etc)

Ignore the poll, it's inaccurate now. Prices are about 1/2 that amount. I found a new supplier for the dash bulb rubber sockets that use the tiny T5 bulb. If anyone wants to help the cause, post a photo of the length of the sub harness and let me know which machine it came from. I'll need a clear photo of the harness connectors to reproduce them. I'll update this as I get the data collected together and check over the parts I have on hand.

Parts based on part number (Bold = measurement data I have)

    1986-1987 TRX350
    1987-1989 TRX350D

If I'm missing any machines, please let me know so I can cover as much as possible. I've ran though up to 1989. Around 1988 Honda started using a different style socket.

Adding photos of the completed socket harnesses below. I'll have them listed on the 3ww shop and ebay and try to keep them in stock as best as I can.

Considering what it takes to track down the parts and put it all together, no that's not overpriced. Quality work ain't cheap and cheap work ain't quality.

Yea I agree personally, but you have to also listen to the market. If people want cheap crappy parts instead of expensive quality parts, you have to go where the market is. Prime example is the ATC350X headlight sockets, I source the sockets from Honda, so they are expensive when I sell them for the 350x application ($70 shipped), but they sell fairly rarely. I have had a few people ask if I could do like $50 on them, but I had to decline since I'd be basically loosing money at that point. Been watching for a cheap alternative that meets atleast some sort of quality standard, but hard to find that with China made parts.

I guess I should mention the part is from Kawasaki. It's sourced from an OE part for another machine, but atleast I know the quality is there.

Anyway, I can also take a request on what model to make first. The wiring isn't super long on the source part, so I might be able to color match it up on the extended wire section. I'm guessing the 200es or 250es would be the most common need, but I'm pretty sure I have the connectors for any machine. If the socket doesn't work out, I know there's some Honda parts that I could try too and I think they were around the same cost per socket.

Well not so great of news. The part I found uses a T6.5 bulb, and the OEM Honda socket uses a T5 bulb. If their mount size is the same it won't be a huge deal, but it might be the wrong size . Seems the T6.5 bulb is quite commonly used, so if it works, there's probably more than one machine to source the sockets from. I'll probably still order the part in my next partzilla order just to check it out since that's the only way to really know details well on this kind of stuff. Hopefully the $40 investment doesn't end up being worthless (there's a fair few on ebay used for fairly cheap so prob hard to resell).

Alright, after probing a few ebay sellers, one replied with some good details and using some of their terms, I think I've found an exact replacement for the sockets that match perfectly with OEM besides wire color. Not sure what rubber color they will use, but who really cares much about that anyway. Their measurements are just a tiny bit larger than the ones I have on hand by like 0.1mm, I suspect the rubber shrunk with age, so that's a nice indication it's not a reproduction, but the actual source part. I'll be making an order of them, and the replacement sub harnesses will be a lot cheaper, something like $25-30. Doubt anyone that needs this part would mind the price, it's new and pretty sure good quality (time will tell I guess).

I'll lead by example. Basically I'm looking at wire length, wire colors, and connectors. This 200es one I could get that covered well in one photo. Since there's a neutral and reverse socket, it's handy to know which one is which if known (I can research it on the wire diagrams too).

    Length: 10in
    Machine: 1984 ATC200ES
Wire colors: Gray, Yellow/Red, Light Green/Red
    Neutral is Green/Red + Yellow/Red

Finally ID'ed what this one is from, 1985 ATC250ES. Looks like 86-87 style only was a wire color change (gray -> blue/red), don't have the length to validate though.

    Length: 20in
    Machine: 1985 ATC200ES
Wire colors: Gray, Black/Brown, Light Green/Red
    Neutral is Green/Red + Black/Brown

Check out what came in the mail today =). 50x of the rubber dash sockets. They look perfectly the same as the OEM ones. Of course the wire colors don't match, but not a huge deal, the end with the connectors I'll match to OEM wiring where it really maters. Also took a couple side by side photos. Have to love the nice shiny new contacts.

Thanks for the support. I've been working hard lately to expand the coverage of products I can offer.

I'm working on making all of the sub harnesses for each of the bolded machines above, and I found another one I have that's unmarked so I have to ID what it's from (thinking 85 TRX250). I should have photos and the parts listed on 3ww shop and ebay sooner rather than later.

This is great! Thanks again! I have a loose harness which is 85 SX, looks like you already have one of those though. If it's not a huge deal I can remove my 86 harness and see what the differences are.

Yes, a photo to compare the 85 vs 86 250sx would be great. If you don't need the 85 one, I wouldn't mind having one to take apart. Based on the wire diagram it shows there's a diode in the wiring. Hate to take my good one apart from my rider. I know for the 86-87 one the diode was made replaceable in the main harness, and the wire colors match for both years, so I'm thinking it's only the diode difference which isn't really easy to visually see the difference. Not super sure what would happen if you used the 86 sub harness on the 85 machine (aka no diode anywhere in the system). I'm guessing the safety system that hooks to the CDI would get the wrong signal when in neutral and maybe the machine would have no spark because of it.

I'm still kind of shocked the sockets I found are like an exact match to what OEM was. The wiring even has the same markings on them even though both wires are green. I have to run though the wire diagrams for each of the machines to make sure I didn't overlook any others with diodes, but I have most of them made that I have on hand, so photos and listings on 3ww shop/ebay are coming up fairly soon.

Ps2fixer— the sockets you got look to be the match for the 86/87 Honda trx200sx atv dash (neutral /reverse indicator) lights- (hard to find) working ones without corrosion- Click image for larger version.

    Shep,

Can you measure the overall length and take a photo of the connector(s)? Can't really have you test for a diode, but I guess I can hope that the service manual is accurate (see notes below on the 250es manual lol).

Also, yea there's a lot of TRX models that used these too. Probably a bunch of motorcycle/scooter dashes too.

    -----------

Man I keep finding things wrong with the service manual data. The ATC250ES (85 year) service manual doesn't document the diode on the neutral/reverse sub harness. The ATC250SX (85 year), does have it documented, just not super noticeable. This is like the 5th or 6th issue I've found in the service manuals so far lol. Some day I have to get back into building my interactive wire harness diagram, little details like this would be handy to point out. Probably should make a thread to document all the service manual issues in one spot.

Since I have a spare 85 250es neutral/reverse sub harness, I'll probably put it apart and see how they did the diode setup exactly, no point reinventing the wheel.

Well, Cut open the 250es harness, and yep there's a diode inline. Also kind of interesting the splice has no heat shrink or anything on it. Diode has "normal" heat shrink, not the adhesive/sealing style I use which is a good thing for cutting them off. Also added a photo of the diode, it's a pretty little guy. I'm not super great at electronics, but I'd guess it's like a 1-2 amp diode. There's not much for markings on the diode, just 77 in one spot, a T, and 1-L. Also for reference, the side with the line is towards the harness connector.

My camera is being a pile of crap today, most photos are ending up blurry .

It was just an eBay pic/ the one I have is mounted on a bike- think I threw the junk harnesses away/ I’ll look around tonight, but probably don’t have it though- when I pull that bike out I will get it for you/just kinda buried at the moment.
