    1986 200x kick lever

Hello all, new member old rider. I need help finding a kick lever for an 86 200x. If not an oem part, maybe an applicable alternative that fits? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello kid 01, you had asked for a measurement in the 200x “groups” section, I’m not part of that so I couldn’t respond there.
Here’s a picture for you and Good luck on your search. I’ve possibly heard the kawi Mohave 250 fits but I personally haven’t tried it. Click image for larger version.

    Hope this helps you.
Now “if” you had an 87 200x there is at least one known option that I know of I’m sure more because of the larger shaft.
What does your kicker shaft measure? maybe you’ll luck out and you have the larger shaft.

It’s a larger shaft. I have a 16mm that fits good on the splines but is the Incorrect direction of kick. If that makes sense.

Ok, sooo if you’ve got a 16mm that fits good you don’t have the larger 87 shaft.
The 87 is over 3mm larger.
Here’s an 87 kickers +shafts. Pics- Click image for larger version.

But if u really need to try it’s the 85 trx250 Fourtrax (gotta check my notes) kicker that fits nicely on the 87 without hitting the case and kicks the right way.
IT WILL NOT fit the smaller shaft though.

Prices for good or new kickers these days is not cheap, I just saw a “very” worn out 86 kicker sell for over $100 (eBay) that’s crazy....
I hope any of this helps you, but c’mon post some pics of said machine

You can be 100% sure what year your engine is based on the engine serial number. At least as accurate as the center case half with the number stamped in it.

86 starts with TB05E-63 and 87 starts with TB05E-84. You can also use my fancy tool on my site for any Honda ATC engine.

If the 85 TRX250 is a good fit, I'd think the ATC250ES/SX should work as well. I think the TRX350/TRX350D has a similar kicker too, maybe it has a larger shaft though, never measured it. The 350x kicks the same way, if it's the right size, I'd think the 87-92 TRX250X kicker would be similar or the same. Sounds like another good part to document to figure out interchanges on.

Ps2- you are correct the 85 trx250 fourtrax kicker in my picture does fit the 87-92 trx250x Shaft (bottom one)but the 87-92 trx kicker (not pictured) couldn’t find it, it won’t fit the 87 200x:::: well it does (same splines) but it won’t clear the clutch cover when kicking.
The 85 trx fourtrax also fits the 350x shaft (middle) Click image for larger version.

The problem with the 86/87 200x motor vin # is that the kick shafts are interchangeable between the two yrs. (slight clutch cover change also) I kinda remember Honda having a recall on the 86 kick shafts because they were snapping. I’m pretty sure the later run 86’s have the larger shaft and I know people have upgraded over the yrs to the larger one.
Not sure on the recall part if it’s my memory from back then or read it here (getting old)
I have no idea on sx/Ex fitment, I think the sx rubbed the case I can’t remember

Sorry kid01 none of this helps u though, nice looking bike though

Ha, always good to have random parts on hand xD.

It's raining atm, but if I think of it, I could try a 350x/250es/sx on the opposite engine, I have a 250es and sx motor sitting in a shed, and also like 2-3 350x bottom ends, pretty sure all have the kick starters on them yet. I suspect the biggest detail needed for the 200x fitment is how much of an offset is needed and some standard way to measure said offset.

FYI, 250sx kick starter shaft fits a lot of machines, 250es, 250sx, and 85-87 TRX250. However the kick starter arm changes part number a lot. SX and ES doesn't even match up.

Also, one of the part numbers for the 86 TRX250 kick starter arms matches up to a million TRX300/FW years as an interchange. If the 86 one works, then there should be tons from the TRX300 model I'd think.

I figured the shaft size though the case was different which would make the center case and side cover have to match the kick starter, I guess that's not the case then.

Kind of funny, I have something like 70% of these kick starters on hand, just none of the 200x ones lol. I do have an 85 TRX250 engine, not 100% what I want to do with it though. Got the machine non-running and the harness was all taken apart. Figured it would be an ok spare for a 250es assuming it's pretty simple to swap in. I kind of remember something weird was going on with it though, like it kicked over hard like something wasn't together right on it or something. I have a couple TRX250X engines, TRX350D, the 250es/sx (85 for both, and a 86 es too). Both years of the 350x used the same part number.

I guess it's good I went nuts on 3 wheelers when I had good income coming in, got a little of everything.

Ok so it is not the big shaft size. The 16 mm is the right fit but short of modifying the one I have to be a forward kicker, I’m lost. If the Mojave 250 is a 16 mm fit that forward kicks? I’ll have to try it. Thank you so much for all the reply’s. Looks like the Mojave kickers are as expensive as the 200x (if you can find one). Must be the right one. Lol

Ps2- the trx is for the larger shaft not the 86-
    What he can do
There is an 87 200x Shaft right now on eBay marked as an 86 (it may be gone by the time he reads this)

Then bore his 86 clutch cover and change the seal to the correct size.
Then buy a trx kicker or 87 200x kicker
Won’t be cheap but...... very doable

Ahh crap, I was thinking they were for the small shaft, should have re-read the post -_-

Another 200cc engine with kick start that I can think of is the XL200 and XR200, maybe they would be suitable replacements. I have an XL/XR engine, I can't recall if it's a 200 or 250 though.

EDIT: It's a 1985 XL250R, and I measured the splines at about 16.55mm. Kind of hard to get to so probably not super accurate measurement. The image above shows that the shaft is even smaller than this one.

Also, measured the 350x spines, 19mm, same as 85 250es, never hurts to double check numbers =).

Kind of ironic, seems the 86 kick starter is the hard one to find, like everything fits the 87/large one (shaft wise at least) lol.

The problem with motorcycle kickers is that they kick backward. At least all of the ones that I've seen did.
