    Atc70 help

    Hey guys
I have a atc70, it has a 74 motor in it and it’s a 80 frame. I’ve done the piston, rings and valves. It had some sort of Chinese carb with it. It seems to idle fine but when I give it gas it bogged down. Then I got a 79 to 85 oem used carb for it and put a kit through it. Put the original air box on it and still didn’t seem to run right. I changed the clip to all positions and air screw. Still doesn’t seem to run right.
I know it’s a 74 motor but will the 78 to 85 carb make that much of a problem?
Should I buy a 73/74 aftermarket carb for it and try that? Is the 73/74 intake manifold different to the 78 to 85?
Don’t know what to do anymore, might have to sell it off.
    Thanks ivan

Change the points and condenser . The points are what advances the timing and will cause it to not want to rev up .

You think that will fix the problem? So just put new points in and a condensor?

Shortline is pretty knowledgeable with these things. It’s a pretty good bet that he is correct. Also points and condenser are a pretty inexpensive try compared to chasing your tail with carbs. New sparkle never hurts.

Thanks Boys I’ll order a set or points and condenser! What points should I get and condenser? Always buy oem ones.

Heed the advice from shortline! In my experience these things live and die based on their ignition systems; and I would beg to guess more than one pull start has fell victim to abuse due to poorly adjusted points or bad condensers.
