Its cool to see this stuff still out there. I have one of them still too. My son wants me to put it in his rider and sell off his old one. LOL.
I've always wondered if a motor that hasn't started in 30+ years just starts right up after a freshening with no problems.
Like a brand new one does!!!!!!!
I was worried about the clutch fibres in my takeout motor.
So when I put it in the 350X, I bought new ones with the intention of needing to replace the ones that had sat dry for 30 years.
That was seven years ago and the replacement clutch plates are still sitting in my toolbox.
Totally agree....
The used clutch fibers that came in my 250R motor mic'ed out at almost brand new. They weren't dry though. I had intended to only use OEM fibers and steel plates but they were still good and not glazed (well, aluminum plates.... these are 85 plates).
So for fun, i did the exact same thing you did except I didn't buy new OEM plates yet. I reused the old ones since it's easy enough to change them out. I thought I might save $100 if it worked out.... So after a couple hours of riding and dumping the clutch a bunch of times, it won't slip yet so I'm going to keep using them until they do.
