broke off the cheap plastic petcock and hoping someone has found a better option? Thinking I might be able to thread a couple of brass npt fittings in there as well.

I have read the reviews on those tanks, and that is a major failure point on them.
It may be possible to heat the tank (empty and washed) just enough to soften the plastic and then thread a brass bung into place.
then you would have a brass fitting to work with after the plastic has cooled.
I have had very good luck with a heat gun on Honda plastic fenders and PVC pipe.
MrC.
Someone needs to make them out of billet aluminum . I would be in for a half dozen .
They all fail eventually , big problem .

Yep that’s it , simple part .
Bolts to the bottom of the tank and two fat o-rings seal it .
Problem is , the plastic warps over time and the o-rings can’t seal tightly , or it just cracks near the nipples .

I don’t see how that style would even work when the original style has 2 holes into the fuel tank for on and reserve .

I used that petcock on a early 200X Clarke tank. It hasn't leaked in 5 years that I'm aware of.
That tank only had one hole though, not like the 70 tank
Your results may vary, of course. I block sanded the mating surface section of the X tank to make sure it would seal
