Something Different, Something you may have not ever seen before...

I am still kinda new here so I thought I might share one of my many hobbies, I will not go into the why or how I do it, just That I do enjoy it, I use to sell my artwork, but find more pleasure
giving them or donating them to a worthy cause or charities. I have been fortunate and had several of my pieces shown in art galleries and in art shows over the years.
Today in lite of the virus talk, something to lighten the mood a bit.

Everything you see is either a spoon, fork or a knife. EVERYTHING

That's cool! It reminds me of the 15' tall chicken made of volkswagen bumpers about 2 hours south of me.

Its just something I kinda fell into a few years ago, I only do a few pieces a year now.
I hope may be one day to be able to make a living at something like that, creative and workshop oriented.

First off, where do you get the utensils? Buy new? Goodwill? Smuggle them out of Denny's?

How did you get started or get the ideas for these? Is "spoon bending" an art form, or is this exclusive to you?

What methods do you use for bending and also for attaching / building them?

Here goes, the wife's birthday was coming soon, she and I were watching tv and saw " American Pickers" show and a guy had welded some junk tractor parts together to make a large rooster in his yard, she said " hey , you like to weld, make something like that" I laughed, at the idea of dragging home a bunch of rusty junk and trying to weld it together and look like something. But it got me thinking, later that week at a yard sale I found a tea pitcher full of large serving spoons, I thought about that rooster the wife wanted and figured stainless steel would not rust, and I could start small like something for the kitchen counter top, instead of something big for the yard. Well that first rooster turned out pretty good and other people liked it as well, I started buying utensils at yard sales, goodwill and even ebay. for a solid year I banged out pieces and even had my own show, it became another full time job, I got burned out pretty quick, I did not like making doubles and triples of pieces, that was a lot of work, I was invited to show my work in a art gallery in Tallahassee, and even to a high end art show, I made a good amount of money but seem to regret it, the turkey brought 4 figures, but I would gladly buy it back, I dout I will ever be able to replicate it. Sure the money was nice, but not having it to share is not worth it. I have donated and given many, many piece away to charities and fund raisers, I enjoy watching others faces when it dawns on them what it is or what it is made of, children seem to pick up real quick.

The process, I hand flatten and shape every piece with the use of a and anvil, I weld them together from the inside working outwardly, hiding most of the welds, I use a miller 110 mig welder, I use 80/20 argon and stainless steel wire, that way when I am done its 100% stainless steel and wont rust like regular steel. I grind, using a flap disc and wire wheel on a cordless drill to remove any discoloration. Time invested Turkey - 24 hours, Fish - 6 hours

The Cowboy Hat- "The Texan" My best friend and brother had a benefit to raise money for his brain tumor surgery, it will always be the most personal piece, He will forever be a cowboy, that was his love in life, I wanted to make something that represented him and his life in Texas, the fund raiser was a success, with a little help from my piece. The last photo I have of him, is him holding the hat, Kevin passed away Nov. 11, 2018, I miss him daily.
