    82 with reverse?

Hi! Attached a pic of me as a tiny tot, dad on back, driving grandfathers ATC. When be passed in 91 we took it home and sold it. I thought this has reverse and electric start. Would that make sense? Thanks!Click image for larger version.

I would guess that it's a 1984 ATC200ES. Then it would make sense.

Yeah most likely a 200es with a 200e tank on it. Or possibly a 200e with a rare reverse kit that replaced the Low gear in the sub tranny

Never heard of this reverse kit, happen to know anything else about it?

Also for the OP, the most accurate way to know what you have is to check the VIN number and engine serial and "decode" them. I made a page a while back to help with this. I assume you probably don't have the VIN logged though? A photo showing the left side of the machine or the rear would confirm if it's the ATC200ES or ATC200E (shaft vs chain drive). Stock the 200es was the only one with reverse, I think all of the other 200's didn't if I'm thinking right.

That's a real interesting read, sounds like the reverse kit replaces high range, so you only have low range, forward and backwards (but 5 gears in reverse). Maybe that's a unique thing the OP can remember about the machine?

The kit looks pretty simple, two chain sprockets that replace the high range gears and a chain to connect them (which gives the effect of spinning the output shaft backwards).

We sold it back in 92 or so, no idea on serial. Main question was what year it is, we arent certain if remember it had reverse or not lol

Nope, the first ES was in 1984, last E model (that I'm aware of) is 1984 too, but that was only sold outside of the US, if strictly US models, the 200E was sold 82 and 83 only.

I just sold a 1983 200e that had a aftermarket reverse kit added to it.
So there is that possibility as well.
There were 2 stickers; a large red one placed on the tank with gold writing explaining how to shift into reverse and a reverse sticker that was placed on the sub trans, look for a photo of the bike that may have those stickers on it.

    Update,
We may owe you an apology,

I may have found a really rare bike, or if nothing else a early production bike.
I found this one in a junk yard, a few weeks ago, yesterday I started to see if it would run.
I assumed it was a 84, it had high, low and reverse just like every 84 I have had in the past.
I looking at the ID sticker and can clearly read 9/83, I will run the serial number tonight and the engine number to
double check, but this could be a late 83 big red with reverse, so your childhood memory may be correct.

Being built in 9/83, it is most likely an early 1984 200ES.
