    1984 200x Personal Build

Ok, guys this one is for me, I have flipped so many this year its time to do one for me. I have always wanted an X and I think I found a great one to save.
I got it to run, but barley, it smoked more than Dennis Leary in the 90's I have to leave the shop and let it air out.
So here we go, Its not a restoration or a Custom, just build it back to driver condition.
may be a few power adders along the way.

So today was the day, I pulled the engine and lost my cherry while I split my first case. I must admit I am a bit nervous about it.
The compression was 92 psi, its smoked terrible and the kickstarter slipped every other kick. so I figured to start there, split the case, back cut the kicker gears and replace the coil spring, Hone (not bore if possible) and D.I.D. timing chain and add a new 10.25 wiesco piston and ring pack, Keep the Super Trapp exhaust.

    I have book manual
    Q. I have split the case, The left side is off, in these pictures, do I have to remove the gearset and shift forks to pull out the kickstart gears/shaft or do I have to flip it over and it comes out the right side of the case? The book is hard to tell.
    Thanks.
    MrC.

You need to remove the transmission to properly pull the kicker ratchet setup .
Back cutting the gears doesn’t work , the first time the bike kicks back when trying to start the motor it will chew off the sharp edges of the ratchet teeth .
The right way to fix a slipping Kickstarter it to replace both ratchet gears and install a new HD spring , original spring wasn’t made strong enough and the reason they fail .
I have installed hundreds of 200x kicker kits , their becoming very difficult to find and expensive when you do .

    ok, So I am clear,
I need to remove the transmission gear set/ shift fork assembly and then the kickstart will lift out? so it does remove from the left side crank case half?
Do you have a part number for the HD spring and a source to get it?
    thanks

Yes you need to remove the transmission and the shift forks .
The 17mm bolt releases the tension on the kicker set up and then it pulls out with some spring tension still , pay attention how it comes out for reinstalling .

Unfortunately all the kicker parts including the spring are long since discontinued .
They do turn up on eBay but always pricy .
I am a power sports mechanic for over 34 years and do have a few kits left but at the moment I am not shipping with this virus out their , I live very close
