    Speedometer NOS parts issue...

I've sold and owned enough that I ought to know, but this speedometer head bracket, right out of a sealed Hodaline box doesnt line up.

I know how to build them, make them, fix them, buy and sell them. But I've never even ran one on my trikes, too expensive to trash... But, why haven't any past buyers said "the bracket doesn't fit right?", because I would have laughed at them and said "it's new, it's NOS, it must be your trike"...

These are 86/87 forks, the mounting hole location seems the same on an 83 thru 85 200X. Seems to be off 4mm, easily corrected but I'm not sure why a NOS Hondaline part is not fitting even close...

What am I missing, makes no sense to me??

I really don't have an answer for you... But for the sake of data collection, mine bolts up perfectly. 1985 200X.

I don't have the part number, else I'd share. Maybe it's not a true 200X bracket?

Actually, looking at my triple trees again, the mounting/bolt face angles inward. Looks like the 86/87 face angles outward.

The kits for the two generations of the 200x are different.
    83-85 08175-96500
    86-87 08175-HB500

The "HB5" kit for the 86/87 has a different bracket that is longer than the 83-85 bracket. As Jack G said, the triple tree on the 86/87 is straight so they made the bracket longer to reach the triple. Pictured is a new in bag HB5 bracket that is out of a NOS kit. The other difference in the 86/87 kit is that it has the wire loop bracket for the speedometer cable that attaches to the lower triple tree. The 83-85 kit uses a red piece of plastic that matches the fender and screws into it. The drive gears are the same, although some of the 83-85 kits the gear housings came painted silver and the 86/87 kits the gear housings are raw aluminum.

The 83-85 triple is angled inward where the fork bolt goes through and on the 86-87 its straight across. That is why the lower hole on the bracket in your photo does not line up.

I made the image below to demonstrate the difference in the triples.

    Thanks guys!!

I had a feeling that the 83 to 85 may have been different, I never saw that nice guide before! Rather than the plastic red one in the kit.

Anyhow, I can just adjust the 90 degree angle in the mount and make it fit, I always thought the kits were the same for all the 200X years...
