Found a Rescue from a Barn 85 Big Red it runs but no forward movement but has reverse. Thinking transmission or final drive but I have not taken it apart yet. Anybody have any thoughts

May be the clutch is sticking or slipping, change the oil ( use proper ATV wet clutch oil ) and see it it begins to work.
Otherwise rule out the clutch first (inspect or replace), tranny issues can be expensive and difficult to repair. Do you hear any grinding or odd noises?
85 is a great year for the Big Red, I have 2 of them.

4 Wheels? Huh?
Are you sure its popping out of reverse?? I had one that the reverse would get stuck, and i though it was out of reverse but it was actually kinda stuck between. As its already been suggested i second it, change the oil, work things back and forth, any noises? Hard to diagnose in text form but if you get more details it will help.
