85 110. Whats going on here

Alright guys, i picked up an 85 110 project. Despite the wrong fenders and tank the engine matches the frame. I got it to run but it was pumping oil out behind the hi/low cover so i assumed the case was cracked and pulled engine. Nothing it broken but the hi/low cover oil drain doesnt line up and the engine number is correct for 85. I thought only 90-110 used this side cover and it is cdi engine cover. Whats going on here? thanks

Not sure I understand your post. Hi/lo cover drain doesn’t line up? Are you talking the hi/lo case itself doesn’t line up?

3rd picture. Sorry its sideways. The oil drain dump onto the case instead of into it. The 85 110 center case is lower there then like on a 90. Click image for larger version.

This hi/low case is cdi but doesnt line up to 85 center case at the oil drain above serial #, Is the 85 different from earlier 110? Obviously i need to get a different one just want to verify before hunting so i dont get the same issue as previous owner.

Someone was very creative in the parts they used to make this build. Saying that they my have used a stator cover from an earlier model CDI motor. Can you post picture / view of complete side cover.

Someone sure went to chisel town removing one of those side cover JIS screws.

Matter of fact, many of them met with Mr. Wedge head.

Looks like someone thought they were unions.

I am not very familiar with the 110. But I have a 125m that has a cover alot like that that serves as a high low switch.
Could that be what was used?

Unfortunately, in this situation, Honda also used that style sub-transmission on their trail bikes, like the CT90.

I have no idea what fits what or what different versions look like. I've had a few 110s, but never this problem.

Could it even be the wrong side cover and the right sub-transmission? It's obvious someone had the side cover off, or at least they really tried to.

Thanks for the input. I thought the sub transmission was a 90/110 only thing i didnt realize they used it on trailnbikes also. At any rate im hunting an 84-85 sub trans case now.

Update. Did some research and found the issue. As i stated 84-85 are same part # and different than 83 and 82. So hunting by photo for what i needed here is the difference and what I needed for the 85. Early 110 CDI cover, VS 84-85, I think, other than looking at what i need i cant confirm the part # on the case yet. Red circle highlights differences otherwise they are the same as far as i can tell.
